Bath bombs

To be (mildly) annoyed when you discover that your bath bomb has 'petals' hidden in it so your water looks more like a scabby pond and you have to try and scoop them all out or risk bark in your hair Shock

Tip for those that don’t like the mess: cut a leg off an old pair of tights (obviously not one with a ladder in it):

Put bath bomb in tight-leg.

Tie a knot in it.

Put in bath.

Simple!

You can also tie the top of the leg round the tap handle so the hot water goes through it as it’s running. Or just whack it in the bath. Whatever. :)

greenpop21 · 22/12/2018 14:14

Good tip Minnie

My grandmother had a bath bomb, in 1941 a Luftwaffe incendiary device came through the roof and landed inn the bath, it did not explode and was removed succesfully

Suddenly the ones from Lush don't quite seem so bad after all.

CaptainHammer · 22/12/2018 18:56

I like the Bomb Cosmetics ones (as long as you opt for non glitter ones) I find they don’t leave a residue and do fizz properly.

MrsJayy · 22/12/2018 20:02

Bomb cosmetics soap bars are lovely

Motoko · 22/12/2018 20:21

I think Bomb Cosmetics and Lush buy their soap bases from the same company, Stephensons. They're using a melt and pour soap base, which they then add their own mix of colours, fragrances, botanicals, and any other bits.

You can also buy melt and pour (M&P) soap base to make your own at home. That's how I originally got into soap making, before I progressed to making soap from scratch, using oil, fats and lye.

I make many things, and want to go into bath bombs next year. I assumed everyone loved lush. Shall I avoid glitter/petals etc?

Was just going to do non coloured, simple with salts and Shea butter, with essential oils. But thought that would be boring? Glad to see this thread really Grin

NerrSnerr · 22/12/2018 21:52

I like a bath bomb, don't mind a bit of petal or glitter.

Not everyone is prone to thrush with bath products etc. The only thing that makes me get thrush is IV antibiotics.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 22/12/2018 22:15

I was given a set of 3 last Christmas and 2 are still kicking about somewhere - they turned the bath into an oily, glittery mess which had to be scrubbed clean with bleach. Never again.

WhipItGood · 23/12/2018 08:22

I hate bath bombs. For all reasons mentioned. They seemed to be a popular present between dds and their friends at one point and I always inwardly groaned when another would arrive.

A fizzing bath isn’t appealing to me. I don’t think I’ve ever really understood Lush or similar products.

Motoko · 23/12/2018 08:44

The bath isn't fizzy! It's just as the bath bomb dissolves, it fizzes, then leaves the water smelling nice, and your skin, soft.

morningconstitutional2017 · 23/12/2018 09:14

Horrible, aren't they? If I get one this year I'm going to give to charity as someone else will love it. Can't stand any of this smelly stuff to go in the bath - it's just thrush waiting to happen.

MyKingdomforaNameChange · 23/12/2018 09:28

I love them!

I have a small shop and sell a variety - although none with glitter! I have some with cocoa butter, which have cleared up a really stubborn patch of dry skin on my elbow that nothing else worked on. I also have some with soap peelings which look lovely and smell gorgeous. I do have some with petals in, but just scoop them out when I'm finished in the bath - there aren't many. None of them leave the bath slippery :)

People seem to love them - I have lots of repeat customers, and have just started a website too.

I don't make mine though as the paperwork involved looked too complicated.

Bath bombs are never welcome here. I never met one I liked.

Ifangyow · 23/12/2018 17:52

The only one time I ever used a bath bomb resulted in a damaged bathroom and a trip to casualty. I think a divorce was mentioned too.
I didn't wash the bath out after and later, my DH went for a shower.
He slipped on the bath surface as he was stepping into it, and while doing a dancing on ice act, he grabbed the glass shower screen, which tore from its hinges, going with him as he fell backwards.
End result was a smashed shower screen which took a chip out of the sink that it hit and badly scratched the bath.
He ended up in casualty having 4 stitches in his shoulder, 3 in his leg and concussion.
I don't want to know where the rubber duck ended up!

WhipItGood · 24/12/2018 08:19

They remind me of those Harpic limescale tablets that go in the toilet Confused

labazs · 24/12/2018 08:49

could be worse what about old fashioned bath cubes? always ended up with some at xmas like sitting on a pile of grit in the bath never dissolved completely usually horrible scents too like blue fern as if such a thing exists lily of the valley etc

Lovemusic33 · 24/12/2018 09:03

Yep, bath bombs give me thrush. Even walking into lush makes me itch.

The ones with glitter in are awful.

Lovemusic33 · 24/12/2018 09:07

glute I think soap and shampoo bars are the way forward, people are starting to buy them more as they are better for the environment (no plastic bottles). I like lush but can’t use most of their products, apparently their shampoo and shower gel bars are becoming very popular. I think bathbombs are not as big as they used to be.

Lonecatwithkitten · 24/12/2018 09:12

The Lush glitter one is the work of the devil I scrubbed the bath multiple times after DD had used it, but DP still ended up being asked in a board meeting why he had glitter on his face!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 24/12/2018 09:16

Ibazas I’m sure i was given some Tweed Bath Cubes once which could only have come from my “D”M because of course, Tweed Bath Cubes are the perfect gift for a young girl with asthma and sensitive skin who chokes she everytime she smells Tweed...Grin

labazs · 24/12/2018 09:18

tweed bleuk hate the smell of that jilted

Gudgyx · 24/12/2018 09:22

My 3 yo dd loves them. My brother bought her a few to keep in his house for when she stays over. He fancied a nice bath himself one night so thought he’d use one.

He didn’t realise it was a glitter one until the next day when he went to work. He is an HSE Manager for a building company, the boys on site took great delight in the chance to tear him to absolute shreds!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 24/12/2018 09:23

My DM wore it every single day until about 5 years ago, even my poor DF couldn’t stand it and sneezed everytime she put it on.
