To have expected a response after 4 interviews?

Jazzybeats · 20/12/2018 09:02

I’ve been interviewing for a pretty senior job at a large company. So far, have had 4 rounds of interviews (not unusual at this level) and in every case had prompt feedback and arrangements for next steps...

However had the 4th interview last week and I know the final assessment is “before Christmas”. I’ve heard nothing since, so am pretty sure I’ve not been selected.

Aibu to have expected at least a token “you’ve not been selected” email? Ghosting me after 4 interviews seems pretty harsh.

Would you send a polite follow up to HR to check the status?

I would. And I would be quite blunt in my reply to them if they do give you a ‘sorry yeah we didn’t select you’. It’s really poor practice and tells you about their onboarding process.

ErickBroch · 20/12/2018 09:46

I would. Extremely unprofessional and rude.

Would also leave a review about it on GlassDoor - but that's just me!

If they can't be professional at this stage you have dodged a bullet

SarahSissions · 20/12/2018 10:31

Just remember they might not have made a decision yet. They might be aiming to make a decision before christmas, but at this time of the year it's not unusual for key people to be out of the company and meetings be pushed back.
I don't think a week is too long to wait

MatildaTheCat · 20/12/2018 10:34

I would definitely make a polite enquiry. I do know that often at this level the decisions are often made by people who turn out not to be available/ in another country etc so I wouldn’t write it off yet.

Fingers crossed.

They should at least have the manners to say thanks but no thanks, although it may not be bad news: the person who needs the final sign off might be away, they might have you as the reserve candidate and they don’t want to say no until they know their first choice is taking the role or they might just be a bit slow at this time of year.

Or they might just be arseholes who don’t see why it’s impolite just to ghost unselected candidates, in which case consider this a lucky escape. If they’re this bad now, how much worse would they be to work for?

Either way, I’d give them a call and if they have ghosted you then I’d be giving sharp feedback too.

(I feel your pain, I went for several interviews with a Thames-based water company, one of which was nearly two hours long, and they never even bothered getting back to be, the fuckers)

DorisDances · 20/12/2018 10:37

Absolutely!

woollyheart · 20/12/2018 10:43

It's rude, but they might be having difficulty getting final candidates in for interview.

It's likely that you are not their first choice. But if their first choice doesn't take the job, they would like you to have it.

Huggybear16 · 20/12/2018 10:46

Yes, I'd send a polite email to HR.

There is every chance that you're still in the running. Good luck OP.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 20/12/2018 10:52

i'd be inclined to think it's "no news is good news" tbh with the delay.

as pp have said, Christmas cocks up all the timelines ime.

Gravel1 · 20/12/2018 10:55

they are waiting on someone else to confirm they want the job or someone has raised the issue do we need to fill it either way carry on looking

rightreckoner · 20/12/2018 10:56

Don’t do anything other than expressed continued interest and even that I think is unnecessary. They won’t be deliberately dicking you around. It might be incompetence but it might also be pre Xmas difficulties. It sucks but when you are looking for a job they are in control. Once they’ve made the offer, you are in control.

RollerJed · 20/12/2018 10:58

I think you should cool your jets OP. It's hard at this time of year to get approvals etc and you start being 'one of those candidates' and it will be noted.

TheFaerieQueene · 20/12/2018 10:58

I wouldn’t assume the worst. I know that sometimes getting sign off for an offer can take a while, especially at Christmas.
