Just that, really.

OP posts:
Zoflorabore · 19/12/2018 22:34

Are you pissed op?

13thWarriorWitch · 19/12/2018 22:36

Too right! Bah Humbug.

Er... what are we talking about again? Confused

RedLife · 19/12/2018 22:39

But I have nice family, who I like spending time with

Good for you

PositiveVibez · 19/12/2018 22:42

Xmas is mainly:

Buying tat for people you don't like
Never bought a present for someone I don't like

with money you don't have,
I never spend more than I can afford and do not have any debt, overdraft, credit card etc

receiving tat you don't want and haven't got room for
We only buy presents for the kids in our family

spending time you haven't got with people you don't like in places you don't want to be.
Nope. I get to spend quality time with people I love, usually in their our my home

The food makes you feel sick and the booze makes you maudlin.
You're eating and drinking the wrong stuff

The cat runs up the xmas tree and the dog steals chocolate and the emergency vet costs a fortune on xmas day.
no pets here

The xmas music alone is enough to drive people mad.
I LOVE Christmas songs

Why do people who dislike Christmas feel the need to be so aggressive about it?

OftenHangry · 19/12/2018 22:46

You sleep as you make your bed IMHO.

Don't want tat? Don't buy it and tell people not to get it for you. Make a wish list.

Spending money you don't have? Do shop assistants have guns and hold them to customer's heads to force them to spend nowadays? Nope. It's all up to the actual person. No need to overspend at all.

Don't spend time with people you don't like. Spend it with the ones you do.

Christmas can be wonderful and quite relaxing time, but people have to make it that themselves.

If someone's Christmas are shit full of tat and spending money on people they don't like it's purely their own fault.

OftenHangry · 19/12/2018 22:48

Btw mix of water, mustard and ketchup makes dog throw up quite quickly. Never had to take mine to emergency vet for eating a bit of chocolate. Whole galaxy would be a different matter, but if they throw it up really soon after eating, all is well.

Theunreasonableone · 19/12/2018 22:49

Treat yourself to another chocolate OP. Even if you don’t like Christmas (I bloody love it) you’ve got a couple of days off to look forward to.

steppemum · 19/12/2018 22:54

Red Life - miss my point much?

I said but I have a family I like - the but is there to say I recognise that my liking Christmas is connected to having a nice family, and not everyone does.

Maybe for you, if it is your Xmas sound pretty sad and bitter, hate to be in your house.

I dont buy anyone 'tat'.

I dont buy presents for anyone except closest family, never for someone I dont even like! WTF would you?

I dont recieve 'tat'.

I dont spend any time with anyone I dont want to, kids and I visit relatives we love and nobody else

We dont over eat to feel sick nor drink to excess, why spoil a nice day?

Our guinea pig is not in the habbit of running amok Grin

No need to overspend on anything, have some self control, stick to a budget, tell people 'No presents this year'.

Maybe you should practice what you preach and miss out all that 'horror' and just sit quietly at home next year?

SushiMonster · 19/12/2018 23:16

No. It is great.

Work shuts. I take 2 weeks off. Loads of food. Hang out with family. Winner.

LadyPasserine · 19/12/2018 23:22

OP has said so little, and certainly nothing of coherence. And here we have posters hijacking the thread to have a fight against each other.

Squigglicious · 19/12/2018 23:28

I like Christmas. This year I’m probably going to spend the day alone for the first time ever, but that’s fine. I’m not getting madly into the buying things thing as I do not have lots of money. I will probably try out going to Church on xmas day for the first time.
I do like how everyone does it differently though. I cherish living in a country where people can choose to be different.

The4thSandersonSister · 20/12/2018 01:06

Christmas is as Opt in or Opt out as you like. There is absolutely no law either way. There is no system and no one way of doing it.

peakSafeSpace · 20/12/2018 03:37

patriarchy, innit.

This does not resemble our Christmas in any way.

Luckily that in no way resembles any Christmas I’ve ever had!

Absolutely none of that happens here at Christmas

ScreamingValenta · 20/12/2018 07:39

Christmas is what you make it.

You don't have to spend a fortune, buy tat or overindulge.

I do agree Christmas trees and pets don't mix, though!

Actually Christmas here includes nice presents that people want, all of which we can easily afford. Spending time with the people I love most, all getting pleasure from watching my actually rather sweet dc have a magical day. I love the food and if by some chance there is an animal emergency my DH is a vet so he will sort it.

BiddyPop · 20/12/2018 08:13

I’ve made time this year for choral music - the power of the human voice is really uplifting. Much better than the “radio standards” Christmas music that are overplayed from October every year.

I don’t buy tat. Things people would like, or find useful (preferably both!😁), yes.

We don’t do a load of socializing - but we do have a few nice gatherings to finish off winter terms at sailing and Cubs and a gathering of our neighbors. All very relaxed.

We do go to visit family over the holidays. But we take a few days to slow down ourselves first, enjoy some nice dinners (including a nice turkey roast, that we work together to cook, and actually enjoy - or we’d buy something else to eat).

And we don’t drown in so much cheap chocolate and biscuits and beer that we’re paying it off, and struggling to diet it off, for months into the new year. We buy a few nice treats, that we enjoy and can afford, but keep limits to our consumption.

It’s also a time of year to slow down, get to some nice services in church, spent some time reflecting on family no longer here, and celebrating the Christmas birth.

Does that make me someone who can’t see the nakedness?

I hope not!

Knittink · 20/12/2018 14:27

Well, the thread’s going along ok, but I still don’t understand the title or any of the OP’s posts. What does it all mean??

Confused Really? The OP is referring to the story of the Emperor's New clothes, where he is tricked into wearing 'invisible clothes' which don't really exist. The implication being that we are all somehow tricked into thinking a) that all the Christmas stuff is compulsory and b)that it is wonderful, when in fact it's pointless and shit.

Of course what's really happened is that the OP's been tricked into thinking that just because her Christmas is shit, everone else's must be too (but they're in denial, obvs Wink). And she thinks we believe all of it is compulsory, which we don't because we aren't mindless sheep. HTH.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 20/12/2018 14:33

the system 😂😂😂😂😂😂

GlitterStick · 20/12/2018 14:38

Oh I love Christmas riddles.
