Surgery/ anaesthetic

I’m due to see gynaecologist on Friday regarding endometrial cyst which is causing severe pain. Likelihood is he may recommend surgery. I’m in a panic regarding this especially the anaesthetic. What if if I wake up during the operation? I know people say you are unconscious but I have a low pain threshold and whenever I have had local anaesthetic such as tooth removal I have felt sensations. Xxx

Graphista, not sure if that was to me, I didn't express myself correctly, by too deep I meant

The last 4 times I have been under the knife (not just ECT) and so GA, I have taken approx 6-8 hours on average in recovery being wakened up and getting ready to go back to the ward.

During ECT the longest it took to get me wakened properly was almost 3 hours by which point I was back to the ward and slept the rest of the day being closely monitored.

I have problems regulating my temperature which usually kicks in worse as well, so I end up in heated blankets and other times with several fans on me trying to get high temps under control as in high 39s or 40s.

I have reacted to a lot of medications and so am given something for sickness as I am a puker (cyclizine iv) but I can't have tramadol for pain due to past serotonin syndrome (SS) induced by it, cant have codeine due to an enzyme deficiency and NSAIDs are out due to anaphalysis and stomach damage.

The enzyme deficiency has lead to lots of reactions over years with MH meds too. But SS, stomach damage and anaphylaxis are reasons I need to be very careful.

OP hope your appointment goes well today and rooting for you xo

I'm a redhead and was petrified. Turns out I react well to anaesthetic! I had midazolam as a pre med which made me laugh a lot. Asked for lots of anti sickness as scared of being sick. Fell asleep. Was under for 5hrs, woke up and was eating 2 portions of food and 2 mugs of tea around 2hrs later
They only kept me in 22hrs post op as I was ready to go home. The only thing I find is I get wired and I can't sleep

Local anaesthetics deaden the nerves that register pain, but you can still feel all the tugging about( yuk) . Generals are totally different and you will be properly unconscious.

You'll have a cuff on for your blood pressure. I've had in excess of 20 GAs and never had any level of consciousness throughout. Anaesthetist are so highly trained and some of my ops have been 10 hours.
