To go back to gp?

Hi posting here for traffic.I'm experiencing painful back pain. I injured something in my back over three years ago. I woke up in pain during the night and in the morning I couldn't walk. Phoned 111 as it was a weekend they didn't want to see me told me to take pain relief. But the next day I couldn't move at all so doctor came out . Said I've obviously done/pulled something in my back and prescribed a
stronger painkiller it took about 5 days to be able to walk .

Since then when ever I do anything such as lifting things /hoovering etc. I get the same pain. it's happened again today and I can't walk or bend neck or move my legs as the Pain is excruciating.

Should I go back to gp or will they just fob me off with more painkillers. I feel it should be investigated more as it's affecting me being able to do basic household tasks and look after my DC, one is 9 months and I can't even lift her this evening 😩.

Go back. Yes, you might have pulled something, or could have a herniated disc

Aquamarine1029 · 19/12/2018 19:34

Have you tried a muscle relaxer?

underneaththeash · 19/12/2018 19:35

Yes, of course you should go back. Back pain often goes by itself, if it doesn't you need a referral.

IWantMyHatBack · 19/12/2018 19:38

What painkillers have you got?

easyandy101 · 19/12/2018 19:42

IME All they're going to give you is pain relief, eventually you might get diazepam at some point maybe tramadol. You'll probably also get distant promises of them doing something else while they hope it self resolves and you go away

Once you've recovered sufficiently try and do as much core beneficial exercises as possible as in the event of future attacks having an improved core will really help minimize pain and symptoms

Also look into simple stretches that promote opening up your spine

I wouldn't personally go to the gp. I'd take some decent pain relief if needed, avoid sitting or lying down as much as possible and try and keep things moving as much as possible

Ive just got paracetamol / ibprofen in the house. I can't remember what I was given the last time. I dont have any left. And it only took the edge off.

I don't want to be taking anything stronger anyways as I'm breastfeeding, so I keep myself as healthy as can be. I would say my core is pretty strong as after the first time it happened I made sure to exercise etc. But I don't know if the exercises cause more damage if I don't actually know what's wrong with my back?

It sounds as if you should have an mri scan and an X-ray to see what's happening with your back.

If it's as severe as stopping you from lifting your baby and walking I'd say it needs an urgent referral via your gp.

Go and see an osteopath or chiropractor. A reputable registered one. They'll at least be able to give you an idea what's wrong. My chiropractor saved me after I had my baby and my back felt completely broken. Best money I've ever spent.

UhUhUhDennis · 19/12/2018 20:24

Is it lower back? Did you have an epidural?

Greywillow12 · 19/12/2018 20:34

Thanks for all the suggestions.. ive had two c-sections first was emergency and had a epidural during labor. Second planned with spinal? .. it's strange as I only get the Pain when doing things like hoovering or shopping, carrying things.

But things exercising doesn't make it sore. I think I will give gp a phone tomorrow. See if I can get seen. I've moved since it happened the first time.so maybe a new doctor might be a bit more helpful.

Seriously see a chiropractor it's likely related to the epidural which is what happened to me (emergency c section) tried a few things but the chiropractor was the only thing that sorted it.
