I won a voucher for a newborn photo shoot with £100 towards photos. We went along with our dd at 10 days old and got a good few photos taken of her. At the viewing they showed us all the photos but here is the catch. The £100 towards the photos is basically the equivalent of one framed photo.
I put my hands up and will admit I didn't read the terms and conditions of the prize where it does state this and just assumed it was a similar set up to the other photography places I've used for dcs photos in the past. They don't do the prints unframed and the cheapest package is around £350 for 4 photos framed meaning we would have to add £250 to the voucher ourselves.
I thought I would have been able to pick 2/3 photos for the £100 but we cannot stretch an extra £250 as I'm on maternity leave. WIBU to just stick to the one framed print or is that really cheeky considering the person took loads of photos?

They work on being able to guilt you. I did the same, I just had my freebie!

Confusedbeetle · 19/12/2018 17:48

Just .have the freebie. They take a load hoping you cannot resist

WorraLiberty · 19/12/2018 17:49

Are companies still at this lark?

I've known lots of people who've been conned by it and had to sit through 2 bloody hours of hard sell, before they could get their 1 photo.

This happened to me many years ago. When I viewed the photos (and nearly died of shock at the price), they offered me various loans (at astronomical interest rates) so I could "afford" the photo packages. I even got a whole load of comments along the lines of "well, if you can't afford this …".

As woolduvet said, I just took the freebie. It's a lovely photo but after their attitude (quite apart from the fact that actually I could afford more photos) there was no way they were getting any money out of me.

This is how they get your money. They bank on you wanting the gorgeous pictures and coughing up for extras.

Stick to the one free photo.

I never trust these companies and their ‘freebies’ Angry

Just take the freebie. Photographers bank on the fact that they can suck a whole new group of parents in every year as new people have babies and haven't had the opportunity to wise up to this scam before. I fell for it with my kids years ago, and while the pictures are still lovely, plenty of my favourites over the years come from our own cameras or family weddings and the like so it's not worth the money at all.
