To ask what you bulk buy

I find it economically cheaper to buy a years supply of shower gel and other toiletteries such as tooth paste and shampoos.

So far I've bulked stocked on dishwasher tablets fairy liquid and fairy bio pods for clothes.

Can I ask for ideas of other things I could stock up on?

The reason I like stocking is because I don't have to go to the corner shop if it runs out which per product is more expensive.

Coffee and chocolates from Lidl so I only have to go in about once every 3 months.

And wine, when I buy it in cases online. 12 bottles is buying in bulk isn't it.

I don't really like stockpiling as I don't like having stuff hanging about but I am currently stockpiling for Brexit and have luxuries and medicines "done".

toilet rolls, toothpaste, soap, washing up liquid, fabric conditioner and laundry liquid, it's much cheaper that well and better for the environment - I have one normal sized bottle for the liquids and refill them from large catering sized ones; they last about a year and cost £40 each.

nessus · 19/12/2018 17:28

Matcha. Seriously, it just works out so so much cheaper per cup!

cloudtree · 19/12/2018 17:31

diet coke when on offer.

Loo Roll
Binbags
(Costco)

Not shampoo or showergel, I get bored with them and you end up in "Beauty Hoarder" Territory Grin

Toothpaste (Superdrugs) on BOGOF , I buy 10 tubes.

Bisto Vegetable Gravy Granules and "Meat the Alternative" vegetarian mince when I see them.

My partner has a Costco membership but we have never been. I think this might be a good place to have a look and draw up a spreadsheet of price comparisons.

Is it weird to actually enjoy the process of finding deals and purchasing like a hoarder. I got so excited when my dishwasher tablets came

I stock pile anything that doesn’t have a use by date and on offer.
loo Rolls
Kitchen roll
Toothpaste
Kitchen roll
Deodorant
Cleaning supplies
Wipes
Cat food
Are the main ones that I only buy when on offer but buy enough to last until they are on offer again.
My local Asda was selling off loads of heavily reduced toothpaste as all the boxes were smashed. I now have a years supply of branded toothpaste for less than £2

cloudtree · 19/12/2018 19:45

I'm doing a very large new year stock up of non perishables. A year's supply of everything all delivered to the house no need to top up. At least in theory.

I used to bulk buy everything like loo roll, comfort etc but when I moved a have no storage space now for items like loo roll. But I live half a mile from Costco so no need to really.. Also have lots of pound shops, savers etc so always something on offer.
Only thing we have loads off is shower gel. Dp uses equivalent to 1 bottle in 2 days.. His job his extra dirty and uses loads. I buy it in those refill bags now but that's about it.

Ineedtobehappy · 20/12/2018 19:50

How does 20 bottles of shower gel last you all year?

cloudtree · 21/12/2018 12:37

20 bottles of shower gel would easily last a year for one person wouldn't it? It certainly would here. A bottle would last me 3-4 weeks.

I bulk buy our meat of a local butcher who does amazing deals and it fills our chest freezer up, I worked out it was so much cheaper than buying it from a supermarket. I bulk buy cleaning detergents when on offer i.e vanish, washing liquid. I also bulk buy tinned stuff and pasta and rice so we always have plenty of stuff to make a meal during tight times, our spare room looks like we are try to survive an apocalypse Blush

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 21/12/2018 13:11

Meat- I buy what I want on offer or yellow sticker, portion it up and pop it in the freezer. Veg, too, buy lots fresh, chop or spiralise if needed, portion up, wrap and freeze. I find it saves waste for me.

I also buy washing up liquid on offer and shower gel. I can't find another huge pump top palm olive bottle like the one I have, so I buy some on a multi buy & fill my bottle and top it back up as necessary. Bit sad but I like my bottle.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 21/12/2018 13:33

oh- and fountain pen ink. I mostly use fountain pen. I won a load of stationery vouchers at school, forgot about them and then used them to stockpile fountain pen ink. I figured it would save me money at uni. It did- and I still have 30 boxes of long ink cartridges. Probably a life supply!

My large household bulk buy arrives today to see us through the next six months...

Hoping this makes life a bit easier
