4 weeks pregnant

Wibu to phone doctor? 4 weeks pregnant and since last night every time I wipe, I’m getting a pink discharge. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be worried? Sad

4 weeks pregnant is about the time you would normally get your period. Or is it 4 weeks according to those home pregnancy tests that times from ovulation (in which case you would be considered about 6 weeks)?

FestiveNut · 19/12/2018 10:26

Don't phone the doctor. What could they do, anyway? It's probably just implantation bleeding. I wouldn't worry.

Congratulations. Cake

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 19/12/2018 10:29

I wouldn’t ring the doctor unless you had sign of an ectopic pregnancy. If you’re miscarrying they won’t be able to do anything. I hope it works out. I have had bleeding in my successful pregnancies so it’s not necessarily a problem.

Bananacloud · 19/12/2018 10:29

No I’m definitely 4 weeks, it was an ivf pregnancy

I've had this both in healthy pregnancy and an early miscarriage in another, although my MC was a sudden gush of blood - that doesn't sound like what you have at all.

Your doctor can refer you to the early pregnancy unit at the hospital where they can test your HGC levels and tell you whether the pregnancy is viable or not.

Pink discharge is unlikely to be anything to worry about, spotting can be normal it could also be implantation.

TheRedFox · 19/12/2018 10:32

@Bananacloud perhaps your IVF clinic would be your best port of cal and most likely to be able to give good advice?

Bananacloud · 19/12/2018 10:36

Yeah I’m away at the moment. I’ll phone my clinic when I get home tomorrow. If it continues and I’m still worried I’ll phone 111.
Thank you ladies xx

It could be a number of things, many of which are not necessarily anything to worry about (e.g. implantation bleeding, local irritation).

Unfortunately at this stage there isn't much that can be done other than "wait and see" which, I know, is easier said than done.

Give the IVF clinic a call. They have all your details and can give specific advice to your situation. I hope it works out for you. Good luck.

FestiveNut · 19/12/2018 10:59

111 is for urgent medical problems only. This isn't one, unless you think it's ectopic (and it still wouldn't be urgent if it were after only 4 weeks). I'm sure you'll be fine. Relax. Xmas Smile

Bananacloud · 19/12/2018 11:01

@festivenut I actually didn’t know that Shock good to know for further reference.
But yeah, I’ll try to not worry and relax. I know sleeping on my left side helps blood flow to baby so I’ll do the for hour xx

FestiveNut · 19/12/2018 11:11

Blood doesn't flow to the baby for a while yet. The umbilical cord hasn't yet formed. It's living off its yolk sak right now.

heydiddle20 · 19/12/2018 11:12

Congrats on your pregnancy.

Spotting is common, had this with my pregnancy at around 6 weeks. I was under the EPU because at 4 weeks they were querying ectopic due to one sided pain. EPU at that point told me nothing you can do, just wait and see what happens, spotting can be normal and they would only want to see me if bleeding became extremely heavy/clots etc. Sad but honest truth is there is nothing anyone can do at such an early stage.

Call the clinic for advice but try and relax because it is more than likely nothing for you to panic over.

Sleeping on your side is great but won't make any difference to baby at 4 weeks.

FestiveNut · 19/12/2018 11:16

Also, it doesn't matter which way you lie until you get big enough for your weight to restrict blood flow- about halfway through the second trimester, if I recall. Might I suggest you get the following book?

The Day-by-Day Pregnancy Book: Count Down Your Pregnancy Day by Day with Advice From a Team of Experts www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0241312817/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.EIgCbKS7TKNR?tag=mumsnetforum-21

It has a page for each day of pregnancy. Really helped me with anxiety in the early stages and teaches you all about what is actually happening. The first trimester is the worst imo. I also recommend 'what to expect when you're expecting'.

Bananacloud · 19/12/2018 13:01

😬😬 thank you so much everyone xx

Are you ok, @Bananacloud?

Bananacloud · 21/12/2018 10:07

Yes, no pink discharge since Wednesday so hopefully we’ll be ok xx

Good luck banana.

Justkeepsmiling12 · 21/12/2018 11:21

Hi could just be implantation. I had bleeding in both pregnancies... So I know how scary it can be.

All my doctor said was to keep doing tests and if they stayed positive and got darker then it was a good sign...but scans won't show anything until at least 5-6 weeks so can't do anything until then.

Good luck X x

BirthdayKake · 21/12/2018 11:28

Hopefully that is just implantation. I had the same thing exactly four weeks after my miscarriage, and I was glad that my period was starting so we could TTC again. But it never did start and apparently I am pregnant again! Good luck xx

Engorged · 21/12/2018 21:10

Congratulations Flowers.

My successful pregnancy i spotted and bled. My miscarriage was all clear. Unless its painful and bright red then i would try not to worry. Though that's easier said. Given it's ivf I'm guessing the clinic should br checking up on you earlier then a mideife would? Will you get an early scan?

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 21/12/2018 21:13

Hope everything goes well for you OP. I ended up in A&E at 11 weeks because I started spotting (watery, not like "proper" blood). DD is currently asleep upstairs nearly 6 years later and v excited for Xmas.

eurochick · 21/12/2018 21:17

I read somewhere that bleeding is more common with ivf pregnancies. I had a huge crampy clotty bleed from 6.5-9.5 weeks with my successful ivf pregnancy. Good luck.

Bananacloud · 21/12/2018 23:09

Yes I’ve been booked on for an early scan 9th jan (will be 7 weeks) and I did a clearblue pregnancy test today and it said 2-3 weeks pregnant. So I’m guessing that’s good news xx
