We've developed a risk-averse education system that spoon feeds teenagers into acceptable value added grades.
Those teens then head to university, sizing up the market as to how to get the best utility for their circa £30k investment in tuition. Universities are ranked by student satisfaction, and are in competition for numbers (highlighted by the rise of unconditional offers).
But now the Office for Students "can't explain" why there has been an inflation of students getting 2:1 or 1st class degrees.
