to bring a little Christmas cheer and play along - elf on the shelf

Dd asked me categorically if Santa was real or not. She’s 10. We talk a lot, the questions were awkward and I decided there came a time to tell the truth being yr6.

Then came the barrage of questions asking me so how did I get x personalised, so I knew what y was even though I acted surprised and even the toy made wrong by the elves when she was 3. All explained. Totally factual. Not to divulge Christmas spirit, st nic &c.

Cue visit to the the childminder last week, who discussed elves on shelves and dd asked for one. Soooo it came yesterday. It’s been up to all sorts of mischief. Dd seems totally taken in albeit suspicious things happen when she’s not in the room some of the time.

Now I’m taking the mmmm maybe I’m wrong and Santa does exist tac but really idk what to do. Dd must so much want it to be real!! There’s months before secondary school to let her down gently.... or is she pretending.

Anyone had the same experience??

We've had the 'santa talk' this year (DC is Yr7) and explained everything, and how they can still enjoy the magic by being santa themselves...

We also have 2 elves (1 (cute and very doll/teddy like) good elf, and 1 (creepy, cheap ebay) cheeky elf) - DC gets so excited looking for them every morning and when I questioned about them moving, I was told "I know you are santa mum, but I am not taking any chances...!"

so even though we have explained everything, theres still a bit of xmas magic, a bit of 'I Believe' there - don't sweat it, and have fun with the elf!

DS9 asked weeks ago if the elf was real or if it was me. Direct question so I told him the truth and said it was me moving it but he wasn't to spoil the magic for his little sister. We then had a discussion about Santa and I said that some kids believe and some don't so no matter what opinion he favoured, he wasn't to upset anyone else. Weeks later, he said he said he knows about Santa but isn't sure about the elf because I don't seem to know what he's getting up to. So despite being clear and honest in explanation, he's still getting a little bit of magic.

Thanks for your answers. That’s somewhat reassured me. The minds of kids eh! Dd told me some of her her friends don’t believe in Santa but do in the elves. So yes, I think it’s wanting to keep hold of that little bit of magic.
