Doctors surgery not able to accept weekly magazines due to heath and safety

I went into my local doctors surgery to give them some weekly magazines (talking about Take a Break and Bella), and the receptionist told me that they cannot accept them due to health and safety, wtaf!!!!

She told me that the local hospital take them. So if the local hospital can have them, which they do, why can't they. I don't drive so the hospital is a distance away so not going to do that. stop the world I want to get off. Madness.

Someone terrified they might be losing their baby or having a difficult pregnancy seeing some of those headlines would be horrible.

SerenDippitty · 18/12/2018 19:55

What about if the magazines are something innocuous like The People’s Friend or My Weekly or The Lady?

I know this might sound weird but some people on here seem to take charity way too far. Most people aren't massively bored in doctors surgeries...most people have smart phones. If they don't, you're not in there for that long anyway. It's not the end of the world. It's like those ridiculous posters who post threads saying I've got a 20 year old stained t shirt with a rip in it...where should donate it to? It's ridiculous.

As for some of those women's magazines I see in the shops, some of the headlines are appalling. I often turn the magazines round so children can't read the front covers.

I used to work for a charity and people would insist on bringing piles of old magazines, insisting that the nursery kids would love to cut them up for collage.

SerenDippitty · 18/12/2018 20:01

My GP has a sign up asking people to switch their phones off.

formerbabe · 18/12/2018 20:06

Just sitting in a doctor's surgery doesn't make you a charity case does it?

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 18/12/2018 20:35

Neutral magazines are fine, my surgery has National Geographic, Gardening magazines, Home style ones and a few children's comics. It's just the rapey, death sensationalist ones for the unintelligent that are the issue.

DGRossetti · 18/12/2018 20:37

Probably a conspiracy to push up the sales of new magazines ...

SovietKitsch · 18/12/2018 20:55

Found a Big Issue from 2004 in my doctor’s surgery a weeks ago. True story.

I never read magazines in dr’s surgerys, and I never let my DD play with the toys in the waiting room. I use elbows to click open the doors, and use my knuckles at the self serve check in. Yes, may be a tad excessive on the ‘infection control’, but I’d rather not take the risk of leaving iller than I arrived!
