I'm off food shopping on Thursday. I have an Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, Asda and M&S near to me. So go on, tell me all the lovely things I should buy. Alcohol can be included!

GM I was tempted by the sloe gin pies the other day but was a bit wary. But I'll give them a whirl on your recommendation!
Always lots and lots of tonic in this house. I drink over a litre a day to stave off cramps Blush

Yes yes yes to cheese! Camenbert for baking. Lots of brie and smoked cheese. Good strong hard crunchy cheese and chutney. Crackers and part baked rolls - Christmas eve get a nice crusty loaf and another on boxing day.

Pringles, nuts, salamis, pork pie and sausage rolls. Clementines and ice cream (Aldi do excellent specialy selected - under £2 a tub - I recommend strawberry cheesecake).

Prosecco, red wine and port.

Oh I can't wait!

I don’t know if you can get them in any of the shops you have listed but dh bought me a jar of pickled pears to slice up and put on your brie on your cracker and let me tell you they take my brie on a cracker to a whole new spectacular level of delicious cheese glory, so yeah get yourself some fancy pears.

OP you won't regret it! Delicious with a bit of single cream.

Does anyone know what the Lidl’s bailey is like?

Regnamechanger · 18/12/2018 17:54

One of my invoices was finally paid and earlier today I hit Aldi with a vengance. Free range pigs in blankets (what a nice image...), biscuits for cheese, continental gingerbread/chocolate biscuit things, wonderful boxes of chocolates, prosecco, red wine, fake Baileys, loads of different cheeses and cold meats, meringue roulade, Xmas puds, posh crisps, battery fairy lights (yards of them for £5.99!), a lycra neck warmer, socks, frozen gammon with ginger and marmalade (or something like that), frozen leek n cheese parcels for the veggies... you get the picture I'm sure. Suddenly Christmas has arrived in our house. Grin

My M&S tip is see if you can get a £5 off when you spend £40 voucher by going through an old fashioned till with a real assistant, use this next week for all the reduced stuff.

Papergirl1968 · 18/12/2018 18:44

Went to M&S this afternoon and bought a pack of sausage rolls, mini sausages, scotch eggs etc, a pine cone dessert thing, a Yule log and a red postbox Madeira iced Xmas cake as we don’t like fruit cake!
Just watch the use by dates as some of them are not too generous.

Italian cakes like panettone or pandoro

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 18/12/2018 22:50

Yey! I'm feeling stuffed just reading this Grin although I've had such a crap day I may buy all the fake Baileys and cheap prosecco and just sack off the food! Blush
