To ask why cats roaming is acceptable?

PengAly · 16/12/2018 23:05

Just want to hear opinions on this. Firstly i should be honest, i am a dog person, 100% love dogs and i really dont understand how people like cats (seems like they are a tad selfish of a pet) but i am an animal lover so obviously wish no harm to any cat and will play with one given the opportunity. This is JUST my opinion. But back to my original question...

Why does it seem universally accepted that cats can roam on other peoples properties and poop in the garden- even digging up flowers?! Now Im certain mainy people would get up in arms if a dog on a lead stepped one paw on their front garden or god forbid came within 3 feet of them or their child(I've seen many dog hating threads on MN) yet cat owners get a free pass for their cats doing as they please?

Im honestly not trying to start an argument i just dont understand it Confused

l opened my curtains this morning to be greeted by the sight of a cat squatting in my border. l went hurtling out and it ran off, mid crap....

katseyes7 · 18/12/2018 10:28

Notevenmyrealname l've found this too. My garden is inaccessible to dogs, but l do catch a lot of cats out there, and they don't always bury it. l went out one day and actually found cat shit just sat on the soil, next to the kale and broccoli in my garden....

PumpkinKitty82 · 18/12/2018 10:59

If you want to scare cats out of your garden you need to do it covertly .
If it’s of unknown origin like a sneaky water gun out the top window then they won’t know where the danger has come from and they probably won’t risk it again .
If you go bursting out of the door then they’ll just wait until they think you aren’t in /there and come back

katseyes7 · 18/12/2018 11:51

l've just come back from the post office. Caught another one about to squat in the border...

Floofsquidge · 18/12/2018 11:54

Snitzel no, it is not illegal Australia-wide to let cats roam free. Legally all cats must be chipped and registered, but each state has their own laws such as NSW where your cat can be impounded if it repeatedly trespasses on neighbours property, but it's not illegal for them to roam. Some states are more strict and have curfews.

PengAly · 18/12/2018 14:38

I do love how quite a few PP agree with me and have even given examples of the cat poop and yet other are adamant that they must be lying... maybe we should all take a sample and send it off to some lap for testing and post the results on here to prove it? Grin I'm sorry- couldn't resist a sarcastic comment as this thread derailed.

Do use water pistols, cats loathe detest and despise water but will remain unharmed. A very effective deterrent!

I hate it on my lawn, but shit exists in all our furry friends, have you blocked your garden to hedgehogs too then, as this is exactly why they are now endangered and dying out.

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2018 18:07

Yes because having it in your lap is way better. Confused

PengAly · 18/12/2018 18:55

@Sparklingbrook oh grow up, its a typo. Obvs i meant Lab...i assumed thatd be obvious but apparently not to someHmm

SoupDragon · 18/12/2018 19:05

Just as obviously, it was a joke 🙄

cuppycakey · 18/12/2018 19:07

Your gardens are all covered in bird shit.

Cats are roamers and it's enshrined in law. Get over it Grin

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2018 19:14

This whole thread is a bit of a joke TBF. Hmm

An AIBU about cat poo. How will that go? Much the same as every other one obviously.

mummyfeo · 18/12/2018 19:23

My dh hates cats with a passion and has stones at the ready by the back door for when neighbours cats come to do their business in our garden. It seems to be a game to them; they come, he throws stones at them, they run away, 5 mins later they are back. When I see them, I close the curtains so he can't see them.

tildaMa · 18/12/2018 19:53

@PengAly
Ive given up as too many PPs on here who are choosing to ignore the main points and push their own agenda based off assumptions.

And yet you keep choosing to ignore the main points and pushing your own agenda based off assumptions.

LadyRenoir · 18/12/2018 19:55

OP, YANBU, I hate how neighbours cats piss and crap all over my garden. Would love them to come and pick all that up.
Btw, I also don;t understand why anyone would prefer a cat above a dog. Go figure.

PengAly · 18/12/2018 19:59

Funny how this far in and some PP are STILL ignoring the points of the people who actually agree with me. Of course its insanity that people dont want other peoples pets shitting in their garden Confused

Zofloramummy · 18/12/2018 20:00

I have cats, mine come home and crap in the litter trays. My front gate is apparently though the best place to wee and poo for a fair few local dogs (including my next door neighbours who I’m still not speaking to 12 months later after watching their dog crap and they left it there! I did challenge them straight away and they denied it!!)

PengAly · 18/12/2018 20:00

@LadyRenoir i appreciate the shared frustration about cat shit! Its nice to know lots of us dont like this

OP posts:
tildaMa · 18/12/2018 20:02

@PengAly

Funny how this far in and you are STILL ignoring the fact cats are not dogs.

PengAly · 18/12/2018 20:04

@tildaMa ONCE AGAIN i will say this, i never said they were the same.

OP posts:
PengAly · 18/12/2018 20:07

@Zofloramummy so would your situation not be that different the the PPs who have had their neighbours deny that their cats shit in their garden? Even when they see the cat do it? Thats my point.

OP posts:
LadyRenoir · 18/12/2018 20:11

@PengAly- I know! When my dog poos in the park in the park, I pick it up, but when someone's cat is hanging around my garden enjoying itself, pissing on my veg patch and crapping on my lawn, it's all good, because it's a cat. Nope. People should keep the cats in or something, instead of letting them out and expecting everyone around to clean up.
I don't mind this about wild animals, because they are, just that- wild, but domesticated cats have no excuse in my books.

PengAly · 18/12/2018 20:15

@LadyRenoir you have basically said exactly what ive been trying to get across for 20 pages (others have said the same thing as you but they got ignored). Thanks!

Flowerpot2005 · 18/12/2018 20:22

I think OP is so passive aggressive re cats it's untrue.

I object to how OP lumps the majority together.

I have 2 cats. Prior to their arrival, my front flower bed was a huge shit tip. Did I sit whinging? No, I cleared it, bought some strong repellant which worked & put wire across the bed to stop the cats going back

Cats mess in others areas when they don't have a litter tray, the vast MAJORITY have trays.
