As in if I'm not at the very front (not singularly a problem) of the nativity/light show thing at National trust/dozen of things we have attended this year.

Honestly I'm starting to think it would be easier to just watch this stuff on Facebook at home and not bother going out at all.

Yanbu. It’s sad that everything has to be filmed/photographed in order to be ‘experienced’. Or that’s how it feels, I’m making a conscious effort to leave my phone behind and just enjoy the moment. It’s irritating if your view is then blocked by someone else holding their phone up in front of you in order to capture the moment.

Andallwaswell · 16/12/2018 19:10

I HATE this. It annoys me even more when it is something being professionally filmed and shared freely on Facebook but people still shakily film it on their crappy iPads blocking everyone else view.

PooleySpooley · 16/12/2018 19:11

I wish it was banned from concerts (that I have paid to go to).

Ktay · 16/12/2018 19:13

I went and watched Harry and Meghan’s wedding on a big screen at Kensington Palace. They were just streaming the BBC1 footage but even so someone decided to film it Confused

Ballbags · 16/12/2018 19:15

YADNBU - does my fucking head in. The quality of video and sound is appalling so why bother doing it? Just so they can show-off on social media?

MrsMcW · 16/12/2018 19:18

100% agree. Worst I've had was a friend's wedding, where the woman right in front of me held up her iPad to film the entire ceremony. Annoyingly I think she was the groom's aunt so I didn't feel I could ask her to stop, but I couldn't see a thing past her arms except on the screen.

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 16/12/2018 19:19

I do it because I'm disabled and don't get out much. On the many days where I'm bed/house bound, being able to watch my memories are everything.

Obviously this isn't the reason everyone does it, but sometimes it's not just because people are obnoxious.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 16/12/2018 19:22

sometimes it's not just because people are obnoxious.

No, but people who do want to film should be aware they're blocking people's view & be at the sides or the back.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 16/12/2018 19:25

When went to Coldplay someone was filming with a Ipad... As you do.
Don't get it especially if filming the whole thing. Experience the moment in front of you!

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 16/12/2018 19:27

I agree. I'm always very conscious of other people and wouldn't dream of using a tablet!

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/12/2018 19:39

Glad I'm not the only one. Made the dds wait a bit today to shake off Facebook addict family because I can't hold my tongue!

I had to film my childs nativity last week. I was at the back and couldn't see the play because of all the phones and tablets in the air... had to film it so i could see it from my phone. Was really annoying that we had to stand at the back of the room and still couldnt see a thing :(

driggle · 16/12/2018 20:02

YANBU.

I don't understand people who film firework shows? Who actually watches that back? Just enjoy the moment with your eyes!

NewPapaGuinea · 16/12/2018 20:24

Saw JT in concert at the o2 and a woman filmed the entire show through her phone. She even started filming the big screens when he was stood right in front of us as she got confused as to what she was filming. I pointed her in the right direction. Fair enough do a quick video to capture a memory and atmosphere, but no more. Most of it is just for the “likes” on social media anyway.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/12/2018 20:43

It's just so invasive and rude.

OP posts:
Terribletwos84 · 16/12/2018 21:25

Was at a concert last night and felt like all i could see was a sea of phone screens! Pissed me off so much, felt like it ruined the atmosphere!

Helpisneeded13 · 16/12/2018 21:32

Went to see Drake last year, and it was so hard to get tickets.
People spent their who bloody time taking pictures of them selves and not watching, filming the performance etc.
I took a few with my son and got on with why I was there - to dance and enjoy myself.
It's so Black Mirror ( Netflix show)

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/12/2018 22:50

That would really piss me off if I had paid for drake too!

Every future event I go to I want to stand/sit with older people - they don't have camera phones Grin

TrueCrimeToll · 16/12/2018 22:53

Schools should stop people filiming the shows. If you have a whole bunch of arms up with phones filming, if you're near the back, you can't bloody see.

I'm just starting to hate people more and more Sad.

Joinourclub · 16/12/2018 22:54

Ah i hate it so much.

Queenofthedrivensnow · 16/12/2018 23:08

@TrueCrimeToll my kids school are just really wet about the whole thing. They are too weak to stop the filming they just gave out a sheet saying don't put it on Facebook. That's whole school shows. Dd1 teacher is having none of it and bans the filming so the parents donut covertly.

OP posts:
bonfireheart · 16/12/2018 23:10

DD school has banned phones n I love it.
I am amazed at how people's phone batteries last that long or they have storage space.
I'm also annoyed by the people who go into art galleries n stand in front of you to take a photo of a painting! You want a photo? Go to google images! Don't come to an art gallery n get in everyone's way.

Also on a random aside, still annoyed at the women at the theatre today who thought it was acceptable to wear the world's biggest antlers n sit in the front row to ruin everyone's view!

FishFingersAndCustard11 · 16/12/2018 23:33

Not sure if it was just my primary school, but they either sold or handed out dvds of the school play. They recorded the students performing the play the day before the actual play. There was no audience and it was done with a decent camera, so there was very good sound and picture quality! The school did ban people from recoding the play with their mobiles and they asked if they wanted photos, to take them after the play. I think they made this decision to a) sell more dvds (if they weren't handing them out) and b) to make the whole experience better, especially for those at the back. My parents have a dvd of every play me and my brothers participated in.

YANBU, my dd hasn't started school yet (still another 2.5 years to go for that!) but I will be proper pissed if I couldn't see the play because someone is waving their phone around recording it.

LellyMcKelly · 16/12/2018 23:39

I go to quite a few gigs. I don’t mind people taking photos or short clips of video, but when someone stands in front of you filming the whole thing it’s really annoying. I like to move as close as I can to them and start singing along really loudly and as badly as I can.

MidnightAura · 16/12/2018 23:48

I hate this. Last concert I went too was ruined by the guy in front streaming the entire show to Facebook live.
