teacher gift etiquette?

Ive done the class collection for our Year 4 teacher and TA this year. How should I split the amount between them? I'm thinking two thirds for the teacher and a third for the TA on the basis the teacher does all the lesson planning, reports. parents evening etc.. Not quite sure though! What are people's thoughts? thanks

I always thought teachers/TAs weren't allowed to accept cash gifts?

PurpleFlower1983 · 17/12/2018 06:59

50/50 The teacher earns a lot more.

TheBigBangRocks · 17/12/2018 07:26

70/30 as although teachers get paid more they put in way over and above their salary than a TA does. If the class were doing individual presents the teacher would get far more that way as people often buy the teacher and not the TA for their own reasons.

BusyMum47 · 17/12/2018 07:43

I should add that as TA I never expect gifts at all - the sweetest thing is a card or picture from the kids. At my school it's not a big 'thing' - there are certainly no collections going on, thank God!

This thread is bloody awful.

GloomyMonday · 17/12/2018 19:48

How so tinsel? A TA doesn't always work full time in one class. S/he may work across several classes. Or only work with 1-2 named children. I think the split depends on the nature of this particular TAs role.

Blondephantom · 17/12/2018 20:19

Fifty fifty. I’m a teacher and my TA is wonderful. I’d be happy for it to be a 70-30 split in her favour as she is amazing. Though there is really no need for a collection or gifts.

cowfacemonkey · 17/12/2018 20:25

I hate this trend for collections and alway cringe at the big show the alpha mummies put on of handing over the loot. But mostly I loathe the unfair split between teacher/TA and the inevitable situation where a TA who is in class on a 1:1 or small group basis is ignored in the collection. We do our own thing at the end of the year and just a card at Christmas.

MaryShelley1818 · 17/12/2018 20:28

Definitely 50/50

Menolly · 17/12/2018 20:59

If its a TA that only works in that class then 50/50, if like a lot of ours they are split across a few classes then I'd go 70/30.

If there is a 1:1 in that class I would get them a little token something too, doesn't need to be a share but maybe take a couple of quid out to get them some chocolates or something, because I know in my school 1:1s often end up helping other children/doing odd jobs when their 1:1 doesn't need them/isn't in.

BringOnTheScience · 17/12/2018 21:04

My TAs were bloody marvels who kept me sane. Worth their weight in glue sticks. 50:50 😀

iLoveFoood · 17/12/2018 22:08

It's a gift so 50.50 even though the teacher is more 'important' if you're so bothered

EmeraldShamrock · 18/12/2018 04:48

I would go for a 60/40. It seems fairer than a 3rd. I do think the Teacher should get extra.
I bought DDs Teacher, Teachers assistant who is also a qualified but junior teacher and her resource Teachers. I got the actual class Teacher an little voucher with her gift. She has been amazing for her 2nd year.

EmeraldShamrock · 18/12/2018 04:52

Anyone any idea's for preschool as there are 8 altogether who alternates the mormings /afternoon's I cant afford individual gifts.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 18/12/2018 05:15

I would say 50/50, but I’ve never given to a collection? Is this instead of teacher xmas gifts?

Redglitter · 18/12/2018 05:22
