To have just binned a bar of chocolate?

Not a shitty bar of dairy milk but a hotel chocolat slab thing containing 5 million calories. I broke it up and crumbled it in the bin so that I couldn't retrieve it when dc are in bed later Blush

I considered re-gifting but I know that if I hadn't binned it then it would be in me by the end of tonight and I'm trying to lose weight.

I'm the worst person ever aren't I?

WTF! Just use your willpower and have a little bit.

I hate waste! And binning chocolate should be illegal.

NoShitHemlock · 16/12/2018 18:34

But but but... if you eat it and and enjoy it all then there are NO CALORIES in it!! So the trick is, if you eat it and only enjoy half, then all of the calories are in the half you didnt enjoy therefore you should stop eating half way through!

That's science that is Grin

I'm not insulin resistant, I just enjoy eating chocolate when I'm bored or even when I'm not bored for that matter. I'll find excuses as to why it's ok to eat it and tell myself that I deserve a "treat" - the only way to stop myself is to not have it in the house. It was in a hamper that my friend made up for me - alcohol and bath stuff, I can resist!

I've done similar in the past but I can resist if the item isn't opened. I have chocolate and biscuits in the cupboard that are safe from my advances because the packaging is in pristine condition.

And I've scattered used cat litter over the top of binned chocolate to make absolutely sure.

I think I need to ring 101 to log this...

EmUntitled · 16/12/2018 18:46

YABU those chocolate slabs are really expensive and delicious, someone else could have made use of it. Couldnt you have given it to a neighbour if you had to have it out of the house?

WelcomeToShootingStars · 16/12/2018 19:00

I think food waste like that is far from something to feel proud about.

Why not put it in the freezer until you can do something more productive, or perhaps develop a modicum of willpower?

AGHHHH · 16/12/2018 19:02

Seems they feel the opposite of pride judging by their OP...?

littlehotdog · 16/12/2018 19:06

😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 I'm pregnant and craving chocolate...unfortunately it seems baby is not and I throw up immediately after eating it. I'd still have had your chocolate out of the bin mind 😳

Ceilingrose · 16/12/2018 19:21

I once got so utterly utterly sick of clearing up Lego that I binned a good handful of it. We bought a new dustpan and brush to collect it up in the end, then taught the kids to do it themselves.

Miss those days now.

OnceInABlueMoon9 · 16/12/2018 19:22

Don’t worry about food waste op. It was either going to be in your belly or in the bin. The money had already been spent and yes you could have donated it to a food bank but you would have just eaten it. Best to chuck it than eat 1000 calories for no reason imo. I have done the same and the people saying it’s a waste obviously don’t understand our complete lack of control when it comes to chocolate 🙄

DietCokeIsBae · 16/12/2018 19:31

This mindset and attitude that women have adopted really f*cks me off - you think that one chocolate bar, no matter how big is going to immediately make you fat by christmas? That's not how science works.

If you ate a giant one everyday up until christmas you might just START to see a change in your body by christmas day. An excess of approx 1000 calories everyday for a week would mean you would gain 2 pounds so you probably wouldn't even see it.

Just enjoy the damn chocolate and then do some exercise later in the week if you feel 'guilty'. Which you shouldn't.

Jesus I hate the obsession and crazy-ness that people enter when they want to lose weight. I recommend you all read 'Eat Up' by Ruby Tandoh and calm down.

HildaZelda · 16/12/2018 19:37

You haven't missed anything. I don't get the hype with Hotel Chocolat at all. Personally I don't think it's anything special. Give me a box of Leonidas anyday.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 16/12/2018 19:42

I'm with you OP, I'm the same. If there's chocolate in the house I have to eat it. But if you really wanted it you could have had it as it's almost Christmas and then the New Year for a fresh start, which is what I'm doing.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 16/12/2018 19:46

DietCoke, but when I'm dieting if I have something I shouldn't I immediately think I've ruined things and then I'm back to square one. So when you're in the right frame of mind and you're focused, it's best to not have it. You have to say no to things you crave to begin to lose weight.

DietCokeIsBae · 16/12/2018 20:22

Chocolatecoffeeaddict I understand where you're coming from but the fact is that your mindset in that moment is the problem here, not the chocolate. One bar of chocolate doesn't ruin your diet - many experts would suggest that one of the most beneficial things to eat after a workout is actually a bar of chocolate. (Maybe not a big slab from Hotel Chocolat - but you get my drift)

We need to think about why we are completely abstaining from foods that we enjoy - if you get down to a weight that you're happy with are you then allowed to eat the chocolate again or is it still banned because you need to maintain your weight?

It just doesn't work in the long term - the only thing that will create good weight loss results and will maintain them is balanced diet and regular exercise. It's boring and we don't want to hear it because we all want quicker results than what that can give us (I am also trying to lose weight so I'm not on some high horse here) but the best thing for your weight loss journey long term is to have everything in moderation.

OP could have snapped off a corner of the chocolate - eaten it then not touched the rest. If you seriously can't keep away from a chocolate bar then your willpower is what needs the work, not your body.

explodingkitten · 16/12/2018 20:36

That will cost you at least 5 years in Purgatory.

Just kiddinf of course, I have thrown away cookies to not eat them.
