No lectures about 'just dont drink' please! I rarely do but it was my work Christmas party last night and free booze and well, I'm feeling very tender.

Need to be at a friend's party by 2pm, what will help?

OP posts:
ShitOnItt · 16/12/2018 10:20

Bit grim but on New Years Day I dissolved an alka seltzer in a glass of water and downed the whole thing. I threw up immediately but it was what I needed and I felt instantly better.

Other than that definitely a greasy breakfast and a cold refreshing shower. And lots of water. And a poo Blush

dellacucina · 16/12/2018 10:23

Don't take paracetamol! It's really bad for your liver to mix with alcohol / a hangover.

When I have a hangover, the only thing that truly works is to wait it out. however, lucozade, lots of water, pho or chicken noodle soup, and mild, healthy food like water porridge and dry toast are the way to go.

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 16/12/2018 10:25

Apparently sprite is really good but I haven't tried it.

allyourcats · 16/12/2018 10:27

Don't take cocodamol for a hangover! You'll feel sick as fuck!

I recommend full English or McDonald's burger (not breakfast), Diet Coke and a load of water. Then a Bloody Mary will probably help Wink

jusdepamplemousse · 16/12/2018 10:27

Don’t take codeine with a bad hangover! Very likely to flatten you if there’s still booze in your system. And result in serious voms.

Paracetamol, ranitidine, Buscopan if you have a bad tummy.

Simple carbs, sugary drinks.

Hair of the dog at the party - or just before - but tread carefully. Choose your poison wisely and no more than 3 drinks or you’ll be sloppy in the afternoon!

sherrysfortea · 16/12/2018 10:27

A hot shower, fruit juice and a nap always works for me

Bluesheep8 · 16/12/2018 10:28

Big Mac and a strawberry milkshake. And a hot shower with that zingy minty shower gel.

Violetroselily · 16/12/2018 10:28

A big poo

THEsonofaBITCH · 16/12/2018 10:29

a hangover is residual toxins in the body. Your body needs to get the toxins out. Lots of fluids to help with flushing your system is good and getting your metabolism revved up by exercise helps too. Paracetomol is TOXIC to your liver just when you want it working at max efficiency - do NOT take it! If you need pain relief use aspirin. Do not do ridiculous exercise like try to run a marathon but something to get your metabolism up is good. The carbs help absorb residual alcohol and the fizzy drink settles an upset stomach. Good luck!

ittooshallpass · 16/12/2018 10:30

Chocolate milk - a full litre carton. Works every time Smile

Racheyg · 16/12/2018 10:31

Diryolite - replaces the salts
Paracetamol
Fizzy drink

I struggle to eat till the evening normally but would then eat my weight in carbs

usernamerisnotavailable · 16/12/2018 10:32

Chicken and mushroom pot noodle. Don't knock it till you've tried it.

jewel1968 · 16/12/2018 10:32

Agree about dioralyte www.dioralyte.co.uk/?gclid=CjwKCAiAjNjgBRAgEiwAGLlf2v7ova23LXoH8KpTKX11_Bb2jMIICd8z_c304yHkJAYGzpHKcxDf3hoC0AEQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds . I agree with exercise if you are not too ill. Swimming in particular. Sleep if you can.

anniehm · 16/12/2018 10:33

Tango, fry up/avocado & poached eggs on toast, paracetamol, black coffee. Hope you has fun, we've all been there. Drink plenty of water too

Believeitornot · 16/12/2018 10:34

A small bit of dry toast. Sup some tea. Then scrambled eggs or other protein. Get out for some fresh air.

RedForShort · 16/12/2018 10:39

Depends on how your hungover.

If it involves being sick, them you're pretty much screwed. Sorry!

Headache and tired: this will involved rehydration powders, carbohydrates and codine/paracetamol combination.

THEsonofaBITCH · 16/12/2018 10:42

Can everyone stop with the paracetamol advice please when associated with drinking? Its damaging to the body not helpful when the liver is over taxed, its fine for non-alcohol related pain. I know its folklore to pop a couple with water before sleeping after drinking but ITS WRONG! Thank-you.

sherrysfortea · 16/12/2018 10:44

Yes better to avoid painkillers if you can!

RedForShort · 16/12/2018 10:49

As an FYI THEsonofaBITCH, I tend to not find posts about the awful awfulness of if reported by putting into capitals the BAD and ADVISORY words.

Supporting medical reports are better. Thats reports from recognised medical bodies.

THEsonofaBITCH · 16/12/2018 10:51

Hi Red, Go do your own research I've only got 30 years training so perhaps I don't know what's what. Thank-you.

RedForShort · 16/12/2018 10:53

*tend not to take them seriously.

Greggers2017 · 16/12/2018 10:59

Your liver will be fine with 2 paracetemols after drinking. Most of the alcohol will be out of your system anyway. I'd get as many fluids down you as possible and some food.

RedForShort · 16/12/2018 11:26

Hi THEsonofaBITCH, It's not that I don't believe you, but I'd prefer evidence. I shall take you up on your friendly suggestion of looking it up myself.

Though you'd have thought in 30 years of training you might have picked up a few links you could share.

Back to my original FYI, where I said I can't take them seriously:

You are posting as an anonymous person on an internet your 30 years of training isn't evident. Writing words bad words (TOXIC) and advisory words (WRONG) make your post look amateur. Similar (you might say indistinguishable) from pseudo science posts that are backing alternative medicine, crystals to cure cancer and anti-vax.

Anyway OP hope your back from you five mile jog and feeling better. Grin

acatcalledron · 16/12/2018 11:30
