It doesn’t look racist to cast a white British actor as a villain, but he’s still foreign. Plus Brits are cheaper and not ‘divas’ apparently

Every Imperial officer in Star Wars.
Evil Emperor Palpitine. He was a bloody good villan.
Darth Maul was voiced by Peter Serafinowicz.
I think we just naturally sound more evil!

Don't forget Tom Hiddleston as Loki

www.thecut.com/2017/01/why-so-many-movie-villains-have-british-accents.html

This article says: "speaking in the received pronunciation accent — the “posh” iteration of the British accent, also known as the Queen’s English — makes people appear “more educated, intelligent, competent, physically attractive, and generally of a higher socioeconomic class.” ...On the other hand, though, RP speakers are also generally considered “less trustworthy, kind, sincere, and friendly than speakers of non-RP accents.” And when you put the two together, you get someone with a fierce intellect and low morals — the perfect combo for a fictional bad guy."

What a coincidence, only the other day my daughter was talking about bad guys in films. She was saying NO ONE does a bad guy as well as an English man. Id never thought about it before but she was right.

SilverySurfer you need the Robin Hood prince of thieves extended edition DVD - not sure the extra run time adds much to the story but there is a bit more Alan rickman if I remember correctly.

You could say the same about Russia. James Bond films. Why is there always some Russian involved.

You get that during the Cold War British espionage was mainly directed against the Russians, right? Complaining that James Bond is always going up against the Russians is like complaining that in WWII movies we were are always fighting against the Germans.
