To think films have lost their imagination?

Currently watching baby's day out

And it struck me how nothing seems to be quite as far fetched nowadays on film

I quite liked it when it was completely unrealistic but you lost yourself and went with it anyway in 90's films

Er- you wanna try the new Aquaman film.

You won’t be complaining about a lack of unrealism in that.

One reason why the computer games industry has overtaken the movie industry

flyingdragonzog · 15/12/2018 14:39

But aquaman won't be a classic will it?

These were the classics... the ones that had 10 copies in blockbusters rather than 2

I think the computer games industry has gotten tired, too, though. While still quite a bit better than movies, most of the new games are remakes, sequels, or reskinned FPS/sports games, or empty shells designed to promote the multiplayer function.
I blame big budgets - companies are scared to try new things in case of spending millions on a flop, so they stick to tried and tested formulae, or make another sequel to a box office success.

I don’t know, yes they do churn out a lot of paint by numbers generic type films, but there are still really interesting original films if you look a bit harder than the average remake or super hero movie. A lot of production companies seem to want to play it safe and not invest in out there films, but I find places like Netflix are a bit more adventurous and fund a wider range of projects which wouldn’t find cash through the traditional routes.

Lol, Aquaman will be far bigger than Baby’s Day Out, which is very far from a ‘classic’.

If you want a truly imaginative film, try Sorry to Bother You.

flyingdragonzog · 15/12/2018 17:02

I don't think aquaman had made it as a superhero nostalgia or a classic

Well I saw aquaman the other day and thought it was great.

Saw fantastic beasts the week before which was quite far fetched.
