How much do you spend on your children at Christmas?

A FB thread about a woman who plans to spend £400 on each of her 5 children for Christmas got absolutely ripped to shreds.

My children are teenagers and I have spent about £300 on them, or main presents .. then I do an advent calendar each - usually things I have picked up over the year, costs about £100 each I think .

Doesn’t seen massively excessive ? What do you spend ?

Probably around £150 per child. Agree that IMO wealthier people tend to spend less - massive piles of gifts look a bit council estate, I think is the feeling. Before anyone jumps on my for that phrasing, I was born and raised in such an estate. We had nothing -but at Christmas my parents went all-out on gifts because "we're as good as anyone else". I think this is a widespread feeling.

Wealthier people, on the other hand, have the privilege of being secure in their own wealth/social standing and have no need to "keep up with Joneses."

Olympic also I think some wealthier people spend less at Christmas but will be buying more thought out the year so it evens up. Lots can’t afford to buy a new bike when needed but will save and buy it for Christmas. Some buy new clothes for their dc just because they see something they think they will like where as other it will become a Christmas present.

Yes, I would agree dontsweat There's no need to save for a special occasion

I have two teenagers, they're a bit more expensive. £1K each probably. When they were little, I think I normally spent around £200 each.

Absolutely nothing,

WheelyCoteClaus · 21/12/2018 08:40

About 300 each on 2 teenagers.

We don't have family and sadly they're Dad and that side of the family have walked away from them.

They don't get gifts from anyone else. I buy them a few things
