To go back to A&E?

I recently presented to A&E in absolute agony after a fall down the stairs.
They wanted to scan me but due to the hospital being in special measures, couldn't. They were satisfied that I hadn't done any major damage after an X-Ray and sent me home with painkillers (a tiny amount of morphine, some co-codamol and a muscle relaxant) and referral to the pain clinic.

I went to my GP today because the pain is just not getting any better. I'm not expecting miracles, but the morphine has now run out and I'm trying to survive on the co-codamol alone. The GP (one I haven't seen before) was really miserable.
Said she couldn't prescribe anything more than the co-codamol and to try alternative methods.
I explained to her that (due to chronic pain) my usual GP is happy to prescribe some oxycodone normally in the short term - she said she wasn't going to do that and that it shouldn't have ever been given to me in the first place.
Told me that my pain clinic appointment is at the end of May(!!) and sent me on my way.

I'm in bits. It hurts to move. Luckily, I have my dad here to help with DD otherwise she'd be stuck on the sofa/bed with me all day.
I'm snappy, tired and utterly fed up.
My body just feels broken and I spend a lot of time crying due to pain.

I've taken the max dose of co-codamol I can so far and I am so tempted just to keep popping the pills till the pain goes away.
I know A&E can't really do anything, but what else am I supposed to do? Surely no-one can be left in this amount of pain for so long.
Honestly, they wouldn't allow an animal to suffer.

Anyone got any ideas?

A cracked rib would show on an X-ray. It can sometimes be missed, but would be caught by an expert reviewing the X-ray. A bruised lung would not show up. A collapsed lung would.

If you are barely existing, I would go back to a&e. That is no way to live. I hope you feel better soon.

JudasPrudy · 14/12/2018 19:06

You are having trouble breathing and you're in extreme pain - yes that justifies a trip to A&E.

cheesywotnots · 14/12/2018 19:17

You,really should get this checked, maybe the pain in your back is related to your hip.

Rahul88 · 14/12/2018 19:41

There are several cbd groups on Facebook. You can vape it too. Have you looked into golden paste?

Flowerpot2005 · 14/12/2018 20:00

Go to hospital A&E & insist on a senior review of previous & current xrays etc.

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 14/12/2018 20:22

@cheesywotnots I know. I was just a bit concerned that A&E wouldn't be interested because it's an 'old' injury per se.
@Rahul88 I'm don't use Facebook unfortunately I'm a bit blind to it all.
Not heard of Golden Paste either, what's that?

@Flowerpot2005 how would I go about that? Present at A&E again and ask? Or do I just give someone a call?

I buy mine on EBay, it's Koi cbd white 1000mg, you can get it in some vape shops as well.

AnoukSpirit · 14/12/2018 20:39

Go back. Something is clearly not right.

I agree with you that you shouldn't just be left to suffer. Your life is more precious than that and you deserve better.

A&E told me they were satisfied there was nothing wrong with me and sent me home. I nearly died.

They're not gods, they can make mistakes. Especially when under pressure and inadequately resourced.

LIZS · 14/12/2018 20:43

Call 111 and explain the breathing pain. Some painkillers can affect breathing if there is a preexisting complaint. It may be unrelated to your falls, perhaps a spasm if you find breathing deeply painful or an infection if you have been relatively immobile. A and E is not really the place for chronic conditions though unless there is a complication or sudden change.

QuestionableMouse · 14/12/2018 20:49

Breaks sometimes take a while to show up. (Which is how I ended up walking on a broken foot for weeks!!)

Which bit of the UK are you in? If you Google you might be able to find a different hospital trust that's not a million miles away from you. It does sound like you need to be seen again especially as your symptoms have changed.

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 14/12/2018 20:54

@Nat6999 Does it make you feel odd or is it just relief? I'm very tempted by it.

@AnoukSpirit How awful! I completely respect the doctors/nurses and know they work incredibly hard but that's my worry - they can and will make mistakes. I don't want to kick up a fuss (wouldn't be able to anyway!) but I feel like no one is listening to me.
I'm exhausted and in agony, I don't want a miracle, just something that'll allow me a few hours of normality or a bit of sleep - it shouldn't be too much to ask Sad
Hope you're feeling better now.

@LIZS If I really cannot get the pain and discomfort under control tonight then I'll call 111. I just don't want to go to an OOH and be told 'nothing we can do' - I'll burst into tears and it'll be a waste of everyone's time.

@QuestionableMouse I'm in the SE. I didn't think to google actually, good idea!

All you need to do is say you've been before & no issue was diagnosed. Given your ongoing pain etc, you'd like a senior review.

Tell them you've spoken to PALS, which I am, who recommended this approach.

Hazardswan · 14/12/2018 21:08

Just wanted to say - medipen. It's a CBD vape kit. All sorted for you no faffing and good quality.

Hazardswan · 14/12/2018 21:12

Oh and agree with flowerpot go back to a&e. This much pain is an emergency.

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 14/12/2018 21:14

@Flowerpot2005 Oh you're an absolute star! Thank you so much!
I'll do that tomorrow, my dad is at work so no one to watch DD tonight. Thanks

@Hazardswan Thank you, I'll have a look at that one. Brew

Cocolepew · 14/12/2018 21:31

I get the same type of feeling in my chest/ribs, I have chronic pain due to Lupus, and it's due to inflamation of my ribs, basically I have pleurisy must of the time.
I use a magnesium spray and have recently started Devils Claw and have felt so much better for it.
I hope you get sorted.

Knittinglikemad · 14/12/2018 21:31

@whotookthechristmascookie I can fully sympathise with the pain you are in, I struggle daily with chronic pain, osteoporosis & rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia & multitude of other conditions, have been on morphine now for 10yrs, but ask your gp or even at the chemist to see if you can buy Capsaicin 0.025% cream & rub it on your hip ( must use gloves to apply & don’t get near eyes or mouth) also ask if they would let you try Lidocaine Medicated Patches in the short term till you can see if they help a little, till your appointments.

Ducksarsehead · 14/12/2018 21:39

I realise you are probably in too much pain right now to even think about this but once you have your pain under control somehow...

Please try some physio for your hip. I have the same issue as you. Bone on bone and laberal tears. I have a congenital deformity that should have been fixed at birth but somehow wasn't picked up and has been giving me more and more bother for years. After childbirth it was a complete nightmare and constantly popped out and caused falls. So much pain.

A few years ago I could barely walk. I now religiously do physio every day. Mainly the hip problem ones from the nhs website. It was a real struggle at the start and still is, but it has helped with the pain and I can now get up and down from chairs without my hip coming out. I still have to be careful when walking to place my feet straight and not do any sudden turns.

A&E here could never help and GP Will only prescribe what you've already got. I also have RA and do get a lot of relief with the occasional steroid injection, but that comes with it's own problems on down the line so I try to be really bad before I have to get one
