So.... Just set up a new payment plan for my electricity account and think it's very high! However the bloke I spoke to said it's based on what they think I'm going to use over the next year,
We are a family of 4, 2 adults 2 primary school aged children in a 3 bedroom terraced house.
Everything in the house is ran on electric i.e. cooker/hob ect bit still believe it is high.
Thanks

We have a smart metre but the little screen thing isn't plugged in so I will now plug it in and keep an eye on it to see what we use, that's the reason we stopped using the tumble dryer and electric fire in the 1st place because we could actually see how much they cost to run, I was shocked! X

Not sure on just elec as we use duel fuel. But just gone up to £240 a month Angry, although this is to clear debt as they underestimated monthly payments last year.

Victorian 4/5 bed maisonette.

Spanglybangles · 14/12/2018 13:16

Just had our bill in for the last quarter. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 kids in 5 bed detached with gas heating and hot water and gas hob. We were £186 for the electricity and we don’t have a tumble dryer.

MaxTeyon · 14/12/2018 13:16

I've never changed the tariff we are on so not sure if we are on the best so will have to check that.

You should be changing tariff/supplier every
12 months.

Sitranced · 14/12/2018 13:18

Our electric is about £30 per month. Prepayment meter, 2 adults. 2 bed mid terrace Victorian house with Gas central heating.

Our Gas averages around £30 a month but we actually pay more like £5-10 in July/august and £40/50 in December/January.

Butterflyhulk · 14/12/2018 13:18

PenApple that happened to us with our gas, BG estimated our usage as 36 pound a month that we paid for over a year then I got a letter out of the blue to say I had been underpaying and was now in over 500 pound debt Angry why it took them over a year to realise and let us get into so much debt I'll never know!

£96 here combined for gas & electric through the co-operative, 2 adults, 1 child (another arriving imminently!) 3 bedroom quite large semi detached house, electric cooker although the hob is gas and we are £350 in credit.I expect over the coming months to eat into that credit quite a bit then build it back up during the summer. £80 a month does seem quite high just for electric...

TheClitterati · 14/12/2018 13:20

I pay £82pcm for 3 bed house over 3 floors. That is for gas and electric though. Cost much less in summer, but I don't mind overpaying as it gives me some leeway for winter heating bills.

Butterflyhulk · 14/12/2018 13:26

Think I need to ring them as I've just plugged my smart metre in and that says I've used 450 so far this year but they've estimated I'll be using 1,040 in the next year so that's over double!

TheClitterati · 14/12/2018 13:28

I've gone onto smart tariff. Electricity charges are nearly 4 times higher between 4-7pm so I make sure I don't run dishwasher/washing machine etc at these times.

anitagreen · 14/12/2018 13:30

Weekly around £8 two bed house I don't if having an old meter helps everything runs on electric

Livinglavidal0ca · 14/12/2018 13:30

I have a large ground floor 2 bed flat, me DP, and 1yo DS. I pay about £55 (6 months) in summer and £120(6months) per month in winter. Everything is electric including hot water etc, no gas. So annual usage is about 1050.

Don't have a tumble dryer, boost on our hot water doesn't work so only have one full tank a day too! I think it's really expensive Grin

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/12/2018 13:30

If you've never changed the tariff, chances are you are paying BGs standard tariff which is expensive. When you ring them, you could ask if there are any cheaper tariffs you can be on.

If they're not helpful, then you can just spend a few minutes on a comparison site and switch to a cheaper deal, possibly with cashback - look on quidco, topcashback, or some banks do a deal too - in my Santander online banking, it keeps saying '£35 cashback when you switch gas and electricity supplier'.

We pay £38 per month for a two bedroom flat, modern-ish build with good insulation.

WicketWoo · 14/12/2018 13:41

These threads make me realise how inefficient my house is. We pay £360/month for gas and electric and that is a deal from switching annually. We have high ceilings and (beautiful) single glazed windows. And I'm very nesh!

Butterflyhulk · 14/12/2018 13:54

Think im going to wait 2 months until my gas debt is paid off with British gas and switch to a duel fuel with a different company as just done a price comparison and could be paying around 100 a month for both which is better

6 bedroom house. I pay £99 a month for gas and electric. However. Before that I had a 2 bedroom flat that had storage heaters and that was £180 a month in electric alone!!

But I probably only have heating on for a few hours a day. If that.

cakesandphotos · 14/12/2018 14:05

We pay £15 a month for electric but we don’t have gas

BillThePony · 14/12/2018 17:10

I pay £84 a month but have no gas at all so electric heating and water too. It mainly me and dh. Dd when she is back from uni.

lovewatchingrainfall · 14/12/2018 17:20

We are with eon and 2 adults 1 primary and 1 toddler and pay £65 that's for gas and electric. Only a two bed house. But heating is on all the time in the winter.

Iamclearlyamug · 14/12/2018 17:26

60 per month for large 2 bed flat, no gas everything electric. Just me and DD6

3WildOnes · 14/12/2018 17:36

£80 a month for both. I never turn the heating off (it’s set to 16 at night warmer in the day) and am always leaving light on.

UatuTheWatcher · 14/12/2018 20:39

£200 a month at the moment. We are clearing some debt and will switch when cleared. But it will always be fairly high as I live in an old cottage that is spread sideways up a hill and although is only on two floors is actually on four floors with the way the stairs are configured to reach all rooms. The front half is 1800s, the middle is 1600s and there is a 1950s single storey extension as well. All the rooms have sag windows.

UatuTheWatcher · 14/12/2018 20:41

sash windows even. Don’t know what sag windows are 🙄
