To accept the job?

I have been interviewing for several positions the past few weeks. I have been on the job hunt for months with not much success. Today I got a job offered. It's an okay job, in the right industry I suppose but the pay is rubbish and the staff/managers didn't come across as genuine people.
I am waiting to hear back from a different position as well. That job is challenging, the staff seemed better, the pay is double of what I got offered today. I should here back from this position next week. Obviously I need to get back to the company that offered me a job today. Aibu to tell them yes but pull out if something better comes up?
I have been unemployed for 5 (😳😔) months. It's been hard. I do need a job so I want to secure myself but if something better comes up ? Wwyd?

Go back with a counteroffer to win some time?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 13/12/2018 21:53

Do you definitely need to confirm the job today? They usually give you a few days; so a counter offer early next week would see you through.

Yes I was thinking about asking if there is any 'wriggle room' might have to do that

I need to make a decision in the next couple of days yes

Verbally accept the job offered... they are unlikely to get the offer letter to you before you hear from the other job.

If you get a yes from the job you want, pull out of job you don't.

Don't feel guilty; i work in recruitment, it happens all the time.

You would t be unreasonable to take it and then back out of you get the other one.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. I feel a bit better after reading the comments. Obviously I don't want to let down anyone but feel like I should put myself on the first place in this situation.

Hi OP

I agree with ittooshallpass! I’d accept and then withdraw if you hear back from the other role. I would be tempted to ask for some more time to think if you wanted though, I work in HR and when I offer roles I always say to the candidate have some time to think about the role and get back to me by X date etc (over the weekend or a few working days) a lot of the time candidates want to discuss it with their partners anyway which is fair.

It happens though, don’t feel bad. Hope you hear something back from the other role soon Smile
