Re wanting to claim about this accident?

I was involved in a minor accident today. Me, DH and 9 month old were in the car heading back home when another car crashed into us from behind. The car had a "New Driver" sticker on it.
Thankfully none involved were badly injured though I knocked my head pretty hard against the headrest and saw black spots for couple of seconds. Baby was fine, just seemed a bit shocked and flushed.
The other driver and myself were extremely distraught, she had her DD aged 5/6 maybe in the front seat belted.
We both were understandably very worried for our respective children.
An hour after the accident I went to the A&E as I was feeling extremely lightheaded and nauseous. I started having a horrible headache and my muscles were in "spasm" as described by the doctor who saw me. He prescribed Naproxen and told me the pain would eventually go away.
Now hours after the accident, the headache is the worst I ever experienced in my life. My shoulders and neck are absolutely killing me.
Should I be claiming whiplash and which agencies would you recommend please?
I am so sorry for the long post, my thoughts are all over the place and I feel so sickSad

You should be planning to replace your DD’s car seat, even in a minor accident.

Shehz21 · 14/12/2018 10:16

ExFury Regarding this, should I go get one today itself or should their insurance deal with this as well? We just bought a stage 1 car seat for her so i am a bit confused whether to go through Maxi Cosy or waiting for my insurance go settle it with theirs or something like that? Totally clueless sorry. Husband reckons they will write off the car btw.

I was hit as a pedestrian recently by a moped (Deliveroo driver or similar). Ended up in A&E having 13 stitches in my leg to a nasty wound to my leg. I had two weeks off as I felt vulnerable going to work by public transport with a wound in the right position to be banged by someone pushing a baby buggy (for instance. )

The amount of people suggesting I make a claim was unbelievable. I stepped into the road without looking behind me. I'd had a couple of glasses of wine. My sickness was paid. Yes I'll scar but I'm quite proud of it! Of course I'm not going to claim. I hate this claiming culture, accidents happen.

Freudian slip much

pumpkinpie01 · 14/12/2018 10:34

You will be entitled to reimbursement for the purchase of the same specification of car seat. So yes purchase another one, if you have the receipt for the original one you need to give that to your insurers along with the receipt for the new one.

pumpkinpie01 · 14/12/2018 10:36

Have you rung your insurers yet ? If not you need to, if your car is written off you need your legal reps to sort you out with a hire vehicle.

Shadow1986 · 14/12/2018 10:40

I had a car crash a few years ago and I didn’t even ask to claim, my insurance company just proceeded with it as I was injured, albeit mildly. I had whiplash but main symptom was a muscular injury to my leg which took a few months of physio to sort out. Maybe speak to your insurance company and they will advise.

ThatThingYouDo · 14/12/2018 10:47

Whiplash isn't diagnosed immediately after an accident. It usually takes days to become apparent. An immediate whiplash diagnosis on the same day as the accident will raise red flags with the insurance company anyway.

OP if you are genuinely injured I would echo other PP suggestions to stop using a computer or screen and seek further medical advice.

Oysterbabe · 14/12/2018 10:49

If the accident was your fault Spidey you couldn't claim even if you were so inclined.

Confusedbeetle · 14/12/2018 10:52

You should be more concerned about your health and getting well rather than thinking of how much money you might get, or even whether you should put in a claim. Every action has a consequence. Insurance companies are no exception. Premiums go up because so many people are claiming. If your injuries are shortlived and do not affect your earning capacities you are hardly hard done by. BTW Everyone seems to put whiplash on their claims, makes you wonder what good head supports do

Shehz21 · 14/12/2018 11:03

Oysterbabe Haha. Just made me laugh the way you phrased this.

ConfusedBeetle According to quite a few PPs, being on MN is not going to affect my health atm, this way my way to cope through hyperemesis when pregnant and my way to cope with the stress and pain right now as well. And a claim shall be on the way should I suffer with this pain for much longer or have financial losses due to this accident.

ThatThing Well I was diagnosed with whiplash yesterday when I was in A&E and many others were too, following their accidents. Not so uncommon after all🤷‍♀️

pumpkinpie Yes my DH has been on the phone with them for quite a long time now.
Can I DM you?

OP posts:
pumpkinpie01 · 14/12/2018 11:27

Of course you can, I havent been on mumsnet long, how do I see a DM?

pumpkinpie01 · 14/12/2018 11:39

I have worked it out, yes message me.

TheEmmaDilemma · 14/12/2018 11:57

If you haven't ever had whiplash don't think it's not harsh. It's got to be up there in the top 3 most painful things I ever had. And that includes a broken wrist and an ICU stay.

Dotty1970 · 14/12/2018 12:41

You need to get a new car seat, even if the impact was very low

Dotty1970 · 14/12/2018 12:55

What's made it difficult for me to respond constructively and 'nicely' is the fact you have clearly lied by stating you have the worst headache you've ever had..... That is definitely a lie, you wouldn't be on a phone, lap top etc if that were the case you really wouldn't.
Or maybe your pain threshold is severely low and you 'think' its bad.
But your not being truthful anyway.

IHopeThisIsAGoodIdea · 14/12/2018 13:04

I get severe migraines with light sensitivity, it doesn't stop me from using my phone or laptop if I need to.

Shehz21 · 14/12/2018 13:21

Dotty the poster after you already gave a fitting reply to your stupid comment. Bye.

I got attacked by an out-of-control, off-leash dog earlier this year. Liability for dog bite claims is far less straight forward than whiplash, but I made a point of taking a couple of key photographs at the scene and recording notes of the incident on the way to hospital, in case I decided to pursue a claim in the future. I don't have any issue with people who are genuinely injured as a result of someone else's negligence immediately considering making a claim. It's not like the concept of claiming injury compensation is new so it's going to cross your mind. The responsible thing to do is to consider it from day 1 because you don't know how long your injuries will last, how they will affect you and what your losses will be.
