I’m a very active healthy person. I exercise daily for approx 2 hours.
Around 7 weeks ago I was hill climbing and I injured my knee at the top. I’m not sure what I did but the pain was enough to drop me to the ground and a fair bit of screaming.
Once the shock had worn off I was able to get back up and hobble the 3 hours back down the hill.
This knee is still causing me pain. I struggle to put a sock or shoe on. Once the leg is straight it eases but bending is tough. I’ve tried resting it and I’ve tried ignoring it and continue to workout.
It’s affecting my workouts (I can still workout however slower and less intense than I’d like)
Simple things like picking something up and even being intimate with my other half is very painful.
I’ve been dismissing the idea of getting it looked at by a doctor as I think there are people who need it more than me. I’m not sick, I have an injury which I thought would ease on its own. Since the accident the pain has not become worse or better. Just a steady pain.
Would you get it seen to or hope it passes with time?

I'm waiting for surgery on my meniscus tear, it has taken almost a year of slowly grinding through the system to get to this point so I'd get to the gp asap if I was you. This injury has ruined my life for the past year, so limiting. Get it seen!

Good. I can't fathom why you would risk your long-term enjoyment of your exercise by leaving this.

A part of your body is injured. Respect your body and listen to it.

Just because you are healthy it doesn't mean you haven't done damage.
I have a fractured leg. I used to train 4hrs daily. Yes I am healthy but my leg is still broken!!

The pain is there for a reason. Use your common sense. Stop exercising and get it looked at.
Respect your body and it will treat you well.
Good luck Smile

No problem - it was my own fault for not getting it seen to. Apparently I could get an operation into the knee to see what the problem is and then maybe get it resutured but I can walk, run, etc and it only gives me a twinge when I put weight on it when it's bent, like going up stairs. I decided to put it down to experience.

You need to see someone about it.

This isn't about exercise. It's about long term daily activities. Knees are crucial things. Do you want to get to the point in 20 years time when you're unable to get to the shops because of a knee injury? It can affect your independence, dignity, ability to have choices open to you.

If you see a GP, do not emphasise the sports angle. Explain to them anything in your day-to-day life that it's affecting. They most likely won't give a shit that it means you can't exercise for two hours a day. They won't care. But the fact it's affecting your normal daily life is what's important.

Ffs stop working out - your knee needs time to heal so rest it. Working out 2 hours everyday is excessive

I feel exactly the same as you about wasting doctor time/self inflicted injuries.
So, if this happened to me, I would have gone straight Away to a private physio. It's about £50, you get seen when you want, and don't feel bad about wasting their time if you have more questions to ask.
If you haven't got £50, then yup, see the doctor.

Thanks everyone. I went today and to my surprise my injury was taken quite seriously. I’ve been referred to an osteopath and a physio and might require surgery following some more tests. Thanks again all who encouraged me to go
