To think Horrid Henry’s parents are the horrid ones..?

Watching Horrid Henry and his parents are complete dickheads. Playing favourites, letting Peter get away with murder and always being mean to Henry? I know I sound like a ten year old but I actually feel sorry for Henry 😂

What TV parents can’t you stand? (Topsy and Tim’s are also annoying in their own ways..)

The A at the end of her name suzie ??

Lovingbenidorm · 14/12/2018 00:19

I think Dora the Explorers parents should be prosecuted for negligence.
They allow her to roam wherever she wants, jungles, forests etc in the company of a transvestite monkey, day or night.
They also know there is a rabid fox out for her blood.

I have my suspicions about Cottontail's paternity in the TV Peter Rabbit. The characters all talk about Peter's sainted dad as though he has been dead a long time, so how can one of his kids still be a baby? OK, he could have been dead for not that long, but it seems a long time to them because they're animals, but there's no sense apart from that that this is all taking place in "rabbit time" . I conclude that Mrs Rabbit is carrying on with Dr Bobtail.

(In any event, the whole family is clearly totally dysfunctional, what with all that "Peter Rabbit... just like your father" stuff and Peter's obsession with getting into deadly peril just to do pointless favours for his mother/ baby sister.)

Wigwambam10 · 14/12/2018 02:08

Didn’t Henry’s parents once say he was horrid even as a baby. ? He had no chance

Itsear · 14/12/2018 06:16

Can’t believe all the Peter hate, Peter is so sweet.

BillywigSting · 14/12/2018 06:59

Bing is awful but flop is basically my parenting guru.

I'm nowhere near as chill as flop though and do get cross from time to time when ds is really acting like a little fucker

Suziepoozie · 14/12/2018 07:00

The a in Peppa drives me nuts because I feel like it’s a misspelling of Pepper and I always accidentally sound like Danny Dyer when I say it. Alright Peppaaaaa you spanner.

Peter is a suck up.

Also in Peter Rabbit, while Mr McGregor is trying to murder all the animals, doesn’t he stop to question why they’re all wearing clothes? Oh let me just kill this rabbit that’s wearing a cardigan..

Speaking of Peter Rabbit, Pig Robinson needs to be made into sausages, the feckless irritating swine.
That voice makes me want to plug my ears.

JudasPrudy · 14/12/2018 07:41

Not a parent (that we know of) but Ubercorn is fucking irritating.

Huntawaymama · 14/12/2018 07:52

I love nanny plum! She's so funny

Topsy and tim's mum is irritating though, just shout at them for once!

GraduationDilemma · 14/12/2018 08:32

One of mine is obsessed with Horrid Henry but he's more of a Perfect Peter type so I think he likes seeing the naughty one being constantly bollocked. I think they're horrid to read as a parent but actually genius for kids - because they're tapping into the experience of everyday naughtiness. More subversive and relateable than David Walliams's grotesques. Kids know what naughty means, they know naughty kids who disrupt games and classes, they might have been naughty themselves... We increasingly don't use the word naughty though or we couch things in euphemistic and more inclusive and sensitive terms. I'm not sure what a modern school would do with Henry!

They're quite good for a discussion about manners or kindness.

I do think HHs parents are a bit dim though.

Stardustmemories · 14/12/2018 08:39

@Huntawaymama I was hoping someone else would say they love Nanny Plum. I actually quite enjoy Ben and Holly just for her sarcasm!

WaitingWatching · 14/12/2018 08:46

Yanbu.
When I read HH to the kids I couldn't help but say " I blame the parents" about once every chapter.

Suziepoozie · 14/12/2018 08:46

I read all the HH books when I was a kid and I loved them, he was clever about what he did. Maybe it’s just the episodes they’re showing now but it just feels like he isn’t even being naughty, he’s just around the house and being made to do all the chores while PP sneers at him?

Omg - Horrid Henry is a modern day Cinderella. Is Moody Margaret his prince..?

I'd be horrid as well if I had to live with that simpering perfect Peter!! Peter is treated so well because he is a reflection of his mum and therefore her favourite. She's a fucking sap.

AdamNichol · 14/12/2018 09:26

Peter is so sweet

That depends on the episode. There is one where Henry decides to act good to go to a fun fair. Peter can't stand the idea of Henry sharing in a reward and does everything to undermine that chance.
Over the course of a few episodes, it becomes evident that Peter loves nothing better than to gloat at his brother for all the achievements he has that Henry doesn't - when there is any reaction he immediately cries for mum and gets Henry punished. Peter is an evil manipulate sociopath.

Ceilingrose · 14/12/2018 09:58

YANBU, OP. I always thought the same.

CruCru · 14/12/2018 10:22

The mum from Topsy and Tim is clearly having an affair and is so nice to everyone out of guilt.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 14/12/2018 10:52

@CruCru - I would say I hope T&Ts Mum's obvs affair is with Fit Carson but a) his wife is lovely so I wouldn't do that to her b) Tony Welchs dad is probably more her type. Mild...

londonmummy1966 · 14/12/2018 16:30

I couldn't agree more - my two loved HH and loathed PP - although they preferred Moody Margaret to either of the boys. I've always had a secret theory that HH was the son of the Dad's first marriage and PP is really only his step brother and that that is why the mum is so foul to him (evil step mother strikes again.....)

ThinkOfAWittyNameLater · 14/12/2018 19:02

Peter is an evil manipulative sociopath

Yep.

We love Nanny Plum and frequently draw on her wisdom:

When things are not
Going quite right
Turn them into a frog
