gifts for secondary school teachers

We've always stopped the xmas gifts for teachers thing after primary school because there are so many teachers, because DS says it's embarrassing and because the class tutor only spends about 20 minutes a day with them.

AIBU not to send in a gift for the class tutor?

About the only thing we do for them is little things like £10 to buy a coffee when a pair of teachers were giving up their Saturday to take a group to an event and emails to the head teacher when a teacher has gone above and beyond.

As a former secondary teacher, I rarely got given or expected any Christmas present, only got presents when I left.
The two could be connected, Xmas Grin

I very rarely have had Christmas gifts from students as a secondary teacher. I will say that a card or bar of chocolate or similar if a teacher has been particularly helpful or supportive is really kind and much appreciated, but certainly not necessary.

YANBU, I was a secondary school teacher and usually got a few gifts at Christmas or end of year but the majority of children didn't give a gift or card (I didn't expect them to and was quite happy to only have a few gifts!)

I don't expect presents as a secondary teacher. I love getting cards though, but mostly get them at the end of gcse.

Having said that I will prob get something for my girls tutor because she really does make time for them.

I rarely get presents. To be honest a thank you email or an email to the head naming someone you want goes a long way as mostly we would just like someone to occasionally recognise we turned up!!!

I love getting cards from my tutor group, they're year 10s now and they try and slip them on my desk when they think no-one is looking Xmas Grin

I used to like the way that, mainly, boys would surreptitiously slip a card on my desk.
One year I had loaned £5 to a boy who'd lost his spending money on a trip. The first day back he hung behind after our lesson and quickly pulled out a box of chocolates and a five pound note, 'Here Miss, Mum says thanks! and he scurried out, blushing like crazy.

I’m a secondary school teacher and we so rarely get gifts or cards that anything is nice! But I see over 150 kids a week so wouldn’t expect much, though I do always stick Christmas cards and the occasional random handwritten note on my noticeboard. I had some lovely thank you cards from last year’s Y11 and I keep every one Smile

Dd is in year 11 and she already knows which teachers she will be buying pressies for when she leaves but until now it has just been cards.
