Name changed for this.

My neighbour/friend loaned me £150 a few days ago, until next week. I wanted to order things online to arrive in time for Christmas.

Since loaning me the money, she has been asking for none stop favours. Yesterday for example she asked if I could help get Christmas decorations out of attic and help to put them all up. Took hours. Today, she has asked me to put up a shelve for her. I told her, I was really busy, but I would stop what I was doing, at 2 and do it, then get back to what I needed to do.

She has replied ‘I know you are busy, it won’t take very long, as I’ve already drilled the holes. Seen as I’ve saved some time, can you come with me quickly to X place, as I need to get a couple of bits’ (I drive, she doesn’t, so she is asking for a lift there and back)

I am really grateful for the loan and would usually say thank you with some flowers or similar, if someone helps me out.

I don’t mind helping her, im just busy myself at the moment.

Am I being ungrateful or is she taking the piss?

YANBU. She is effectively making you work for the £150.

Any chance you can pay her back any sooner? If not, just shut your curtains and ignore the bell/calls/texts until payday.

Try never to borrow from her again.

I won’t have the money until next week unfortunately.

I told her I can do the shelf, but won’t have time to give her lift. She has replied, as I cannot give her a lift, can I go at 1, instead of 2, as she will have to get the bus!

I wish I hadn’t asked for the loan! In fact I didn’t ask, she offered. I feel obligated to help her, but her continuous favours, for things she could do herself, are starting to grate! Never again!

Grit your teeth for now, pay the loan back then never ever accept a favour from her again. Sounds like she’s effectively making you work for your loan
