To think people who vandalise ambulances are beyond help?

I'm lost for words. An ambulance being driven at high speed on a motorway with the blue light and siren on and a bottle gets thrown in through the passenger window, injuring the driver. What's gone wrong with these fools? Don't they understand what paramedics do? Is it some inability to distinguish between police and other emergency vehicles? (But even if it was, that wouldn't justify it.)

Was just about to say the same as you. Perhaps they think it’s the police NOT that that would justify it. It’s the society we live in where people are not scared of law or consequence - and why would they? What would they get? A slap on the wrist and a fine they won’t pay

Sallygoroundthemoon · 13/12/2018 08:45

Unbelievable stuff. What is wrong with these people?

HopefullyAnonymous · 13/12/2018 08:53

Why should them thinking it’s the police form any rational explanation?

I’ve had fireworks thrown at the car when I’ve been at work and DH has had a breeze block dropped on his fire engine from a bridge. I don’t think they discriminate.

@HopefullyAnonymous
Why should them thinking it’s the police form any rational explanation?

Err, because the type of scum that do these things see the police as the enemy.

Violent tendencies accompanied by barrel deep stupidity. A woeful mix.
Those responsible should be deemed to have opted out if NHS care now, especially emergency care, as they have shown their utter contempt for it.

convertingroom · 13/12/2018 09:09

It's disgusting

I think actually as well as possibly being too stupid to distinguish between the police being one reason

That possibly emergency services get attacked because they don't see them as "people" and the uniform, vehicle etc they see them as less of a victim to attack being a public service, in the same way some shoplifters would never burgle houses but happily steal from shops

It's awful that people are targeted when trying to save lives. Only an evil person could do that... if they understood, I think some kids don't understand

If you work in public services you are vulnerable to attack.

Sadly, I'm sure you're right. I don't understand it. I can't think what goes so badly wrong in the way these thugs are brought/wired up that they can't understand that paramedics, firefighters, teachers, social workers, nurses, doctors, other HCPs and police officers are all there to do essential work for the benefit of humanity. Difficult jobs in many ways, not everybody gets it right all the time (who does, in any field?) but if nobody did these jobs we'd all be worse off.

Some people are scummy

I'm not usually a 'flog 'em then hang 'em' merchant but on this issue I'd happily make an exception.

Unless and until real, harsh and inarguable penalties are introduced for this type of criminality then nothing will change. There is a sub-class of thick uneducated oik that will respond only to severe punishment or the thread thereof. But of course, as usual, nobody will actually get tough on this stuff. Good job Cameron's gone - he'd probably want to give the fuckers a hug!
