AIBU to think it's ok to discipline your kids?

My friend has a kid who came home and said 'Daddy you can't tell me off'. When asked where he heard that, he said 'at school'- and from teachers apparently. My friend then went on to say he thought it was ok to discipline kids in a fair manner, like that was a topic for debate???

Since when don't we discipline kids? How are they meant to learn or feel secure in their boundaries?

Surely it is ok to discipline kids?

*discipline does not mean hit or abuse

Probably a misheard or misunderstood comment.

Haha there is a big sort of click of mums round here who literally never tell their kids off. They look at me like I'm scum of the earth for saying 'get up off the floor now please' when dd is rolling about on the park screeching coz we have to leave.

Claw001 · 12/12/2018 21:54

Of course it’s ok!

sue51 · 12/12/2018 22:00

I think its a form of abuse to allow your children to grow up believing there are no consequences for bad behaviour. Terrible parenting.

Lookatmeeee · 12/12/2018 22:02

Jeanclaudejackety we have the same click, everything is said in a soft floaty voice which my ds would totally ignore

BeardedMum · 12/12/2018 22:05

Of course the teacher did not say that

Prefer · 12/12/2018 22:23

jeanclaude what do those mums do when it’s time to leave and their DC have tantrums?!

Aquamarine1029 · 12/12/2018 22:23

It's abuse to NOT properly and appropriately discipline your children!

CrazyOldBagLady · 12/12/2018 22:41

I'm quite sure no teacher said this.

HopeGarden · 12/12/2018 22:47

That’s the opposite to the message I’ve had from my DC’s school!

Jeanclaudejackety · 12/12/2018 22:58

They giggle and say oh come on darling now I love you very much but we have to leave, come on now, listen mummy loves you don't be upset, then they say "oh he gets so upset, we will give it ten more minutes" and then God knows what they do after that as I drag dd away by her coat sleeve 😂

The whole 'I understand you're upset and I know its terrible but mummy loves you so very much' spiel, the kids must think having to actually do anything they're not keen on is an actual tragedy on epic proportion
