Presents for DS

If someone was to buy your child a birthday present, would you expect them to visit you to give child said birthday present or would you expect to have to go to them? People in question are young, fit, healthy, able people who live no more than 5/10 minutes away and drive.

Not sure if IABU and should arrange to go to their house - they have told me they have presents for DS and told him on the phone they would drop present off tonight but they have not. It doesn’t bother me or DS (he hasn’t mentioned it) but it just seems pointless to go to the effort of buying a gift but not actually giving it to the recipient.

For the record these are two separate immediate family members.

Maybe something came up and they'll drop it round a different time. Since you're so close it doesn't seem like a big deal either way.

So they said they would call together but haven’t yet? Hey haven’t actually asked you to go to their house and collect the present?

Maybe they are running late

Sorry, should have been a bit clearer! DS birthday was days ago. My brother appeared the day before to borrow a household item and said he would come back over that evening with a present (he didn’t) and my mum called yesterday, spoke with DS and told him she would come over tonight with his present. She knows when his bed time is which was a while ago!

If I mention it they are the type to get defensive and will probably say ‘there’s nothing stopping me going to get it’. I have no intentions of mentioning it, as I said he’s not phased at all. It just seems a little sad that some of his closest family members can’t make the effort to bring him birthday presents they have (apparently!) bought him.

They do sound a bit flaky. Annoying to say you're coming over then not bothering.
