to go back on antidepressants for a job?

May not be the right section, but I've always had more luck getting replies here.

I was on antidepressants for anxiety for six years, and came off a few years ago.

A new job is stressing me out greatly, and some of the tasks make me particularly anxious.

I can't sleep without taking something, my stomach is constantly upset, and it's affecting my periods too.

Work is not being sympathetic, so my only choice is to suck it up or quit, but I can't do the latter as I'm in the middle of a housing application.

I feel my only option is to ask the doc to give me antidepressants again, but I know the side effects will be grim for a few weeks. Does anyone have any advice?

What is it about your new job that is stressing you out?

I went back on ADs this year as my anxiety started to affect my job. But if your job is causing anxiety you have to ask whatneeds to change?

Have you ever considered asking to be referred for therapy? In my area this initially is an online course with exercises similar to what a CBT therapist might suggest, but you can also have therapy over the phone. Obviously this isn’t a quick solution (although where I am I was able to get the online help within a couple of weeks) but if you have experience of the side effects of antidepressants and want to avoid them then it might be worth a try?

Or you could try starting on a really low dose (lower than the normal starting dose) of the antidepressants and working up? This was suggested to me when I struggled with the side effects of taking them at first.

I would suggest going back on ADs so that you can cope with your job and sort your housing application. Once that is sorted then address what is causing the anxiety in your job or look to getting a new one. Once you have sorted that then you can work out whether you are better on or off the antidepressants, but remember they are there to help you function day-to-day, part of which is making sure you have somewhere to live, a job etc. Wishing you well :-)
