Uni advice

I really want to go to uni (in theory, practically not sure I can cope with the workload)
I currently work part time but could hopefully fit it around my hours. Although I don’t know how long I could stay part time.
Is it a possibility to do full time uni, money wise? I have 2 children. I’m a single parent and get topped up by universal credit.
Would I get student loads, could I love off them, pay the rent ect. Would I still get universal credit at all?
Can’t seem to find out online. I know I probably won’t be able to get an answer on here but I’m hoping someone’s been in a similar situation and can share there experience.
The thought of giving up work scares me. A lot. But I don’t know if I can manage work and uni and 2 kids and a home.

Yes it's doable. I'm a single parent of 3 children and I'm on an NHS bursary. Are you in a universal credit area or do you still get tax credits?

BanginChoons · 12/12/2018 22:30

Just 're read and saw universal credit. I'm not sure how thar works out as I get tax credits still.

I don’t know but everyone is entitled to a fees loan and maintenance loan if you haven’t been before.
I would ask citizens advice. They would either be able to help you or know who could.
Good luck

You will get student loans and I think some universal credit too.

research into courses a bit more. Some will have higher workloads than others, some will have placements which could be at unsociable hours

It can be done you can get assistance in various ways, ask directly with the place you decide to go. Check if a college course might be more suitable for what you want to do, university isn't the best option for everyone.

Your UC will be taken away pound for pound by whatever student finance you get. So you will receive very little, if any, UC on top of your student finance.

Hi There,

I would like to ask first where you are from? Scotland, England?
If you are in Scotland then you qualify for SAAS so you will be in a good position for student loans, bursary, fee's paid for and that will give you a lot of support.

Do you have any highers, a HNC, HND that will get you into a university course? The best thing to do is go to open days, speak to the universities and call admissions departments and ask what you need to get in and what support there will be as you are a parent.

The other option is that you go to College first, do a HND and then try to gain 2nd or 3rd year entry to uni afterwards. Thats what I did.
