Doctor didn't do my referal

Went to my doctor a week ago. Long story short I cancelled an operation because I was pregnant. Unfortunately I miscarriaged so I now need the operation again. Meant to be having a laparoscopy, dye Test, cystectomy, endometrial biopsy. My doctor said it would be a case of just re-refering me, no need to see the consultant again. A week later, still no letter from the hospital. The gynae admissions team at my local hospital are pretty quick, so I rang them today and they had no referal. I rang my gp and they said they'd ring back after speaking to the doctor. They called me back to say the doctor had sent the referal. I asked if it had been sent, they said no he sent it today. Aibu to be totally fuming and think I should take it further as this has now delayed my treatment. Just feeling really emotional and feel like nothing is happening.

Thing you've got to remember OP, a week is a long time for you but not the hospital. I know it's hard but try to be patient.

London91 · 12/12/2018 19:34

@Flowerpot2005 I agree. I'm definitely going to try to be.

It will get sorted, give it a few more days & then follow up again with GP. Once your referral is received by the hospital, it will go through a triage process, on the back of that the appointment will be made.

Find out from the GP who you were referred to & if it was admissions or for an appointment, as in surgery or a review. You can then call the hospital & they should be able to tell you how long the wait will be.

I'll give it to the beginning of next week. I had already had my pre op so I think it's just going to be a case of another pre op then operation. Thank you

A week is not long. You may not hear til January.

Sorry for your troubles, and health issues. Hope you feel well soon.

Try to put it to the back of your mind. I am sure you will hear about it in the next couple of weeks. Smile

canibehereifimnotamum · 12/12/2018 20:17

Do you even know how busy Drs are! A week is nothing yabu

squirrelnutkins1 · 12/12/2018 20:20

It took 3+ weeks for my referral to get sent earlier this year for what sounds like almost the same procedure. Still awaiting op. It's all very frustrating and I'm WAY more emotional about things especially with the nature of what it is. so sorry for your loss and I hope you get sorted soon xx

redandyellowandpinkandgreen99 · 12/12/2018 20:28

Agree. A week is nothing!

May even be January now. I tried to make an appointment with my doc last week (7 December,) and couldn't get to see her til 3rd of January!

Lougle · 13/12/2018 11:27

I don't think that is a huge delay, and tbh you're quite lucky that they didn't decide not to refer because you've obviously been pregnant, so at least one of your fallopian tubes is not blocked, which is what the lap and dye test looks for.

I hope the operation gives you some useful information and that you get your family soon.

notangelinajolie · 13/12/2018 11:43

Unless the op is urgent a week won't make much difference. Assuming you are being referred to the same consultant? When you get your referral appointment ring the consultant's secretary - she will check with the consultant first but you may be able to skip the first initial appointment with him/her and be able to arrange a date for your surgery as it may not be necessary for him to see you again. Pre op will probably still need to be done.

YouBetterWORK · 13/12/2018 12:02

Flowers OP. It's tough, I was pretty much where you are about 2 years ago (finally got a lap appointment, had to cancel as pregnant which turned out to be ectopic so had to start referral all over again with 3 months added on for the drugs to clear my system) Just seemed like one never-ending wait and every delay felt like a personal slight, even though obviously it wasn't, lots of emotion riding on stuff.

TurquoiseDress · 13/12/2018 13:38

I don't think a week delay for a referral is anything out of the ordinary.

The only situation where it is not acceptable, is where the GP has suspicions for cancer, that should be done right away.

Sorry you have been through a difficult time Flowers

London91 · 13/12/2018 18:11

It is an urgent referal because I had an extremely large ovarian in the past. But not urgent as in suspected cancer.
