AIBU to ask advice about my tooth?

Had emergency filling done today (second one in 4 weeks) as a temporary measure to solve a root canal problem. I can’t get regiestered to a NHS dentist for love nor money since my last one up and left. Had registered at a semi private one through bupa. They can’t see me until 14th jan.

Extreme pain in tooth again for past two days to back to emergency dentist who had cleaned out and put another filling in. Only problem is that now the numbness has worn off it feels like the filling is ‘too high’ on my tooth so when I bite down my teeth don’t go together there is a small gap and all the pressure is on the sore tooth. Dentist didn’t check bite after she filled it like they do normally with that bit of paper.

What do I do now? I feel like I can’t take another emergency appointment but nor can I bite properly? Do I try and put up with it for the next 5 weeks until I can be seen at this new practice? Will it wear down on its own accord? It’s a white filling is that helps not a metal one. Not sure what to do as it’s sti aggravating the oringal offending tooth!

Absolutely ring them and explain it's too high and can they get you in to file it down.
When I worked in the dental world this was relatively common, quick and easy fix. They might not give you an emergency appointment but hopefully should squeeze you in x

Check with that bit of paper? I've never had this and had tons of fillings.

But I had a similar problem, there was a mismatch between my newly filled tooth and the one above it. It grinded itself down to fit and wasn't a problem after a few weeks.

AGHHHH · 12/12/2018 18:35

Oh no I'm wrong, the hygienist scraped it down for me!

Who do I ring? The practice I had an emergency appointment with? (This is different to the practice I am registered with as they don’t do emergency appointments) I got the appointment though 111? Do I ring 111 again? Or do I try and ring ANY dentist to see if they will fix it.

Ring the Practice you saw today.

I’ve had a few fillings and they’ve all felt like this for a day or 2. Not massively but definitely noticeable before it kind of settled down

Ring the practice who did your filling

It might wear down over time, I'm guessing it's not a permenanty filling if your halfway through a root filling so they do wear however it's probably a good idea to give them a ring should only take a minute to file down.

Biting on paper is normal for permanent fillings, it shows the high spots. Some dentists don't do it for temporares because they aren't normaly in your bite but if this one is just go back.

It might settle down, so I’d leave calling them for a day or so if you can. (I had a crown fitted that felt huge; as if I’d got a mint imperial stuck in my teeth - I can’t remember exactly which tooth it was now.)
