Homeless because of bad credit?

pinnjnnn · 12/12/2018 17:02

I can't find anywhere that will rent me a house as I have bad credit and fail the credit checks
I work but my credit history is bad.
Nobody I know owns property so can't be a guarantor
What am I meant to do?
I'm gonna have no where to live
Can these letting agents do this?

adaline · 13/12/2018 12:41

£325 pcm

Yes, but that's just the rent. Council tax is over £100 pm, then all the other bills that come with living independently. It's not cheap. Our mortgage is around £325 per month and we easily spend that again on bills, not including car stuff, fuel, food and any individual things like phone bills.

pinnjnnn · 13/12/2018 12:42

On rent here and food I'm spending £400
If partner also puts £400 that's £800
I'm sure £800 covers rent ,food and council tax easily.

My advice is the same- you'd need to save for a deposit (2-3 months), first month's rent and agent fees before moving. As a person with poor credit, you'd probably have to pay 6-12 months in advance in the hope that they even consider your application and waive the credit checking rule.

Wow at the cheap prices though. 2 beds are triple that here down South.

pinnjnnn · 13/12/2018 12:43

I'm going to be in exactly the same position with money.
Only problem is nobody will give me that chance.

TinyMarie · 13/12/2018 12:47

Obviously it depends on the area you are renting but me and my partner rent a 2 bed flat privately and I wish our flat and bills came to £800!

Andromeida59 · 13/12/2018 12:51

No OP, you did have that chance but instead of being sensible you decided to run up debts. Why would anyone who's father has their phone contract would think they're responsible for a baby?

APositiveMind · 13/12/2018 12:55

Energy efficiency rating of E, that's not great, more expensive to run the house.
So you spend 400 in total, I think you'll find that having your own home, with anothrrperso and possibly a child you're going to be looking at a lot more than £100 a month on food!
We have a two bed and no children, our gas and electric bill is £98 a month, and that's pretty average. It is massively expensive to move out. The way your talking I'm quite glad credit checks are a thing. You should read back through this and see how naive you're being.

Have I missed something? I don't understand why your boyfriend can't rent a flat for the pair of you. I know it's more difficult if you're self employed, having to produce accounts etc, but painters and decorators usually earn pretty well. In fact, you only really mention him in passing. What are his thoughts on all this?
Other than that, your only way it to work like mad, getting an extra job if necessary, pay of your debts and live frugally for now. It will be worth it in the long term.

pinnjnnn · 13/12/2018 12:56

@APositiveMind we aren't just talking my wage to cover everything tho are we ..we would be talking 2 wages.

OP posts:
pinnjnnn · 13/12/2018 12:57

We would have to joint rent the flat so they would more than likely still credit check me.

OP - the credit checks can only view public information, not your full credit report. Google it and you can see this info on the Experian website. Are ccjs listed on the insolvency register thingy?

Seniorschoolmum · 13/12/2018 12:59

Op, yes, it’s frustrating but grumbling about it isn’t going to help. The sooner you pay off the debts, the sooner your credit rating wlll improve.
You’re living at home and no children. Get a second job - working evenings or weekends - and throw every penny at those debts in 2019. You should be able to earn another £100 a week, after tax you could pay off an extra £300 a month. Within a year you’ld be clear.

Time to take ownership of the problem.

needanappp · 13/12/2018 12:59

There's no way you're 30 and this clueless about the costs of living.

As shown in my previous post, your costs alone would be as follows. YOUR costs not your and your partners cost.
*
Rent: £287.50
* (your half)
Other bills/living costs: £117.50 (your half)
Finance/Insurance: £270
CCJ payments: £200
*
That's £875 before fuel and any other outgoings you may have.
*
You'll have rent, plus over £100 a month council tax, water, gas/electric, food/groceries.

This means your partners outgoings for rent and other bills/living costs would be £405 and that's without any car costs, travel costs, phone contract etc.

This means you'll need a minimum to even meet the basic bills of £1280 combined.
*
So no £800 is not going to allow you to live together as you won't even meet basic bills.*

No one is this clueless about the outgoings involved about living on your own and running a household. I was doing it at 20 and so have many other people who were my age or younger. This has to be a wind up thread.

APositiveMind · 13/12/2018 13:02

That so exactly why you shouldnt yet have a child.. Your dad pays your phone bill because you physically cannot be trusted to have your own...

It’s quite simple.

You will be credit checked for any rental.

You won’t pass the credit checks. Until all the debts are settled and are over three years old at least, you won’t pass the credit checks.

You need to make another plan.

Wordthe · 13/12/2018 13:08

I think you should of went to Specsavers

pinnjnnn · 13/12/2018 13:09

@needanappp where exactly are you getting those figures from?
The property in question
£325 rent = £162.50my share
Council tax =£50 my share
Other bills say £100 my share
Food say £100 each
=£412.50 living costs
Not sure what your calculating

NotScrewingUpNow · 13/12/2018 13:09

No one is this clueless about the outgoings

There are grown adults who haven't learned to manage money.

It's a skill that can be learnt. Maybe OP wasn't taught this. So lucky you.

pinnjnnn · 13/12/2018 13:10

@APositiveMind no my dad has my phone bill because I lost my job and my debts mounted up so my credit file isn't great..

SilverDoe · 13/12/2018 13:11

@TheOxymoron thank you, that was very kind and genuinely means a lot to me Halo

Zofloramummy · 13/12/2018 13:11

How much do you actually earn a month?

Babymamamama · 13/12/2018 13:11

This thread is very odd. OP - why is the future father of your children not sorting out a place for you both to live? Oh let me guess does he have bad finance too. Don't bring a child into this please if you are for real...
