To ask what this phrase means to you?

I was once told by a toxic person in my life (with whom I no longer have contact with) to "go fuck myself" and have seen this phrase tossed around on occasion when not relating to me.
I'm wondering how others would interpret this phrase... does it mean "Go hurt/kill yourself" or is it just an expression of anger people use when they want to be rude because they know it sounds nasty?
Thanks.

Just an expression of anger IMO. Like a more extreme 'screw you'

Never thought of it as anything to do with killing/hurting

PurpleDaisies · 12/12/2018 08:08

I wouldn’t over think it. It’s a general “I don’t want anything to do with you, stay away from me” to me.

Dahlietta · 12/12/2018 08:10

I’ve not noticed it used as an incitement to harm. I’ve generally always thought of it as a more elaborate version of fuck off.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 12/12/2018 08:10

I’ve never thought of it as go kill yourself or anything remotely like that. It’s just a more aggressive way of saying get lost to me.

OwlBeThere · 12/12/2018 08:12

It just means fuck off.

raspberryTrousers · 12/12/2018 08:14

They just want you to fuck off.

It's as meaningless as using the adjective 'toxic' that some people have appropriated to mean 'something they don't like'.

BreakYourselfAgainstMyStones · 12/12/2018 08:14

As above, it just means fuck off. Nothing to do with hurting or killing.

WaterBird · 12/12/2018 08:15

Thank you guys for setting me straight on what this means.
This person had been very toxic to me and had told me worse, which is why I thought that the phrase and harm were related.

I always took it literally, like, "Go away and amuse yourself with something else, like wanking" Grin but obviously with more anger/hate.

Pachyderm1 · 12/12/2018 09:11

I’ve always understood it just to be a form of ‘fuck off’.

Hope you’re ok, OP.

WaterBird · 12/12/2018 09:17

Thanks. I'm OK.

It’s basically just a stronger way of saying “piss off”

jessstan2 · 12/12/2018 14:02

It's a horrible thing to say, just rude. Means 'on yer bike' only more extreme.
