To write a thank you email after interview?

I had an interview today. The job is great! The interview went well, I did my best - although now I'm thinking back at the interview I realise I should have said things other ways maybe but during the interview with the nervs I think I did pretty well and I am proud of myself. I did a lot of prep for it and I hope it will pay off.

Now obviously the waiting game... I know they are interviewing this week. I should know an answer by next week Tuesday/Wednesday.
I obviously want to stay on the loop and thought I might just drop a thank you for the interview email.
Is it something people still do?

Did they give you a business card with email/ contact numbers? I’ve been to interviews where they’ve said ‘if you have any questions please feel free to contact me’.

So in that scenario I’m going to go against most people here and say that it’s perfectly acceptable to send a quick thank you. I’ve sent emails before to say ‘it was nice to meet you, if you have any further questions about my skills/experience please let me know’.

Politeness would be thanking them at the end of your interview. Emailing to say thank you either looks like an oversight in not having done this or needy, desperate behaviour. You had the interview, did you best, leave it until you hear back from them. Then emailing to say thank you for a response would be acceptable, not before.

I always have.
If writing a short, polite thank you is going to be regarded as pushy or unprofessional then I wouldn't want to work for them.

This is quite different from repeatedly writing to HR to find out if a decision has been made.

I think it depends how you do it! I've had a few people email me before after interviews, some look as though they are being a bit too eager, whereas others are genuine and polite!
