Will the dentist take my tooth out tomorrow?

Posting here for traffic

About 10 years ago (ish) I broke one of my molar teeth when I was on holiday. At the time I was never offered a crown or anything, the dentist filled it and sorted it and that was that. Surprisingly the filling lasted until earlier this year (May ish) until it had to be re-filled. At the time the dentist told me because the filling was very large it might not last much longer and if it didn’t then I would likely have to have the tooth out.

Over the last few weeks that tooth has been giving me a lot of problems, mainly pain when I eat something, but the last couple of nights it’s been hurting constantly and the pain has been waking me up in the night. I’ve kept topped up with paracetamol and ibuprofen. I’m shit scared of the dentist but I phoned earlier and got an appointment for tomorrow. Explained what it was for and the appointment was booked.

Would I be correct in thinking that if there’s no infection etc the dentist will just take it out tomorrow? I hate hate hate the dentist and can’t bear the thought of it being dragged out into 2 appointments and I want it to be sorted before Christmas!

Quite possibly but I think it depends on how near a nerve the tooth is. I had the same with a wisdom tooth, I just wanted it out as it was giving me excrutiating pain but it was lying very close to a nerve so they made an appointment for sedation for me. At other times I have just had them whipped out instantly.

You'll likely have the tooth out. The process is actually way quicker than having a filling. I had an abscess due to a failed root canal last year. I was in and out of the chair in 15 mins (tooth out, gap packed and a prescription for antibiotics issued). The relief was immense and even the recovery (2-3 days painful but nothing like the pain of toothache) was fine. Good luck.
