A) looking for a bit of inspiration really, what kind of meals do you cook for your family & do your family eat the same thing or do you cook separate meals?
B) I’m a bit nosey 😉

One meal for all - lots if different things from many different cultures - pasta, roasts, curry, chinese, thai, pizza, salad, veg, british staples like fish and chips, steak and chips - the list is endless. All cooked from scratch

HalfBloodPrincess · 11/12/2018 12:13

Tonight we’re having spinach and ricotta tortellini with some kind of sauce, tomato and marscapone if I can get to Tesco otherwise a tomato and whatever herbs we have in the cupboard. Salad and garlic bread.

Last night we had leftover gammon with egg and chips and mushy peas.

Tomorrow will be something with sausages - either a casserole or toad in the hole with Savoy cabbage and roasted onion gravy

Beaverhausen · 11/12/2018 12:17

I do a weekly menu plan with the family and get most if my ideas for meals from pinterest and we eat a wide range from Asian to south African.

Pinterest has been a great help for me and every week we try a new dish, this week sweet and sour chicken.

Beaverhausen · 11/12/2018 12:18

Last night I made a chicken jalfrezi, tonight pasta bake tomorrow it is homemade soup.

DiggertyDamn · 11/12/2018 12:25

1 meal for all. Chilli con carne, spaghetti sauce, pie, ungumbo (we live in Spain and can't get okra), curry, pies.

Current favourite is this cheaptastyandeasy.wordpress.com/bubble-and-squeak-in-the-hole/ I think because it's winter and very warming. We've also been making a few roast dinners lately, because we all love roast potatoes and parsnips, so we make extra and then make this the next day.

HollyJolly74 · 11/12/2018 12:26

This is great! Thanks guys! I’m hungry 😋

I cook bolognese and chilli most weeks - my DS has a mild version of the same chilli as he's not too keen on spicy food. Roast dinner, shepherds pie, chicken traybake (really easy - Nigella has a few good versions of these), chicken and veg curry. If I'm feeling too tired to cook, usually fish fingers, jacket potatoes and corn cobs. DS also has pesto pasta with whatever veg we have in the fridge or freezer most weeks. Usually we all eat the same meal at the same time but on Friday we have 'date night' where we try to cook something different once DS is in bed. BBC Good Food website or All Recipes are usually pretty good if you are in need of inspiration!

Santababyclaus · 11/12/2018 12:29

Dd sometimes has different meals to me and DP as she isn't a fan of spicy food. On those days she tends to get 'kids' meals like fish fingers & chips or homemade lentil & veg soup. She also has a supply for veggie sausages which she likes. Our meals are typically:-

Sausage cassoulet (slow cooker)
Salmon with some form of potato (usually mash or fried potatoes with onions and bacon)
Roast dinners
Cottage pie
Fish pie
Sausage & mash
Steak & chips
Duck & potatoes (similar as with salmon)
Lentil & cauliflower dahl
Sweet potato & lentil dahl
Chicken tikka masala
Greek chicken style tray bake
Homemade Nandos
Pie & chips
Pizza
Burgers & chips
Pasta & prawns
Lasagne
Spaghetti bolognaise
Chicken caesar salad & garlic bread

Most things are homemade and we usually have extras to freeze, this means we're not having to cook every evening or buy 7 days worth of meals when we go shopping.

We live close to a supermarket so can pop in at 8.30ish and buy expensive meats/fish quite cheaply from the reduced section then freeze them.

Tesco website is quite good for meal plan suggestions. I also quite often buy some meat/fish cheaply then search BBC website for ideas and go from there. We like trying new things.

Pretamum - I love the date night idea and following a new recipe!

I meal plan each week, and just buy the stuff on the meal plan which I find makes things easier. Pretty easy week this week (had a lot going on) fajitas, pasta with homemade sauce, stew, things like that.

Notatallobvious · 11/12/2018 12:36

This week so far chicken casserole with cheesy mash/veg and spaghetti Bol, I’ve no idea what to cook tonight so ideas are most welcome! We tend to have the same stuff over and over and I’m bored to death of it. Curry, chilli, casserole, chicken arrabiatta, chicken tagine/couscous, steak. Need some new ideas.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 11/12/2018 12:37

I've got one very picky kid that likes beige food and one little dustbin that eats everything.
We normally eat together. One proper meal and a tesco value pizza on the side. Everyone welcome to pick and choose.

Pretamum · 11/12/2018 12:38

@HollyJolly74 It can be hit and miss depending on the recipe, a bottle of wine definitely makes up for any dud meals though!

Lollypop27 · 11/12/2018 12:38

We had a roast chicken last night with all the trimmings. Tonight the leftovers will be in a pie with extra veg and ham. Roast new potatoes and broccoli. Tomorrow is chicken tikka masala, Thursday butternut squash and sweet potato soup with cheese toasties. Friday is pasta bake and garlic bread.

I cook 95% of our meals from scratch as I am at home all day. I always make extras to keep in the freezer for busy nights too.

The Waitrose and Tesco websites are good for recipes and also some of the slow cooker, instant pot, feed my family on a budget groups on Facebook.

Thesearmsofmine · 11/12/2018 12:44

Weekly meal plan, we all eat the same if possible but DH works shifts and DC have clubs so sometimes separately depending on that.

I mostly cook from scratch with a freezer dinner every couple of weeks. I also try and cook a new meal every couple of weeks. Favourite meals would probably be lasagne, cottage pie, homemade pizzas and my children love a dinner where I fill a couple of platters with meats, veg, cheese, fruit, crackers etc and they can pick what they fancy, fab when two have clubs on the same night with not much time for dinner inbetween.

mbosnz · 11/12/2018 15:31

Weekly plan meal, one meal for all.

Some very common ones:
Chicken in a creamy onion sauce on a bed of fettucine (otherwise known as heart attack on a plate, supposed to be only for special occasions, somehow that manages to be around once a fortnight)
Teriyaki salmon and stirfried veges on udon noodles
Oven baked salmon with veges
Bangers and Mash and veges
Devilled sausages and veges
Steak with a red wine jus and veges
Honey and soy marinaded steak with potato salad, corn on cob and green salad
Spaghetti Bolognese (every Monday for 26 years - a stupid family tradition, but practical because I cook a double batch and freeze, so only cook from scratch every two weeks, lol)
Shepherds pie and veges
Chicken casserole and veges
Coq au vin and veges
Savoury chops and veges
Beef curry
Beef braised in rioja with veges
Roast Lamb/Roast chicken and veges
Spaghetti and meatballs
Homemade marinaded chicken burgers
Homemade beef n cheese burgers
Fish pie
Macaroni Cheese
Beef lasagne/ Chicken lasagne and salad and garlic bread
Stirfry Chicken
Beef rendang
Last minute butter chicken
Fish Sambal
Thai red chicken curry

Made from scratch, using commercial stocks.
Meals stipulating veges - that would be something like potato and kumara mash, brussel sprouts (we're weird, we actually like them, including the kids, lol), leeks, beans, carrots, broccoli and asparagus.
