to not go to work Christmas do because I look awful?

7 weeks post partum. My body I worked so hard for is not looking great anymore. Huge flabby belly, lopsided boobs, huge thighs and bum covered in cellulite. I was toned and could wear anything before I got pregnant. I also felt amazing whilst pregnant. Sexiest I've ever felt.

What the hell do you wear when you look like this? WIBU to just not go? I feel so self conscious and actually a bit embarrassed by my body. I'm like a sack of potatoes and just want to cry...

Throughout life there are times you look great and times you don't. If you decide to only enjoy yourself when you look good then, well it'll be a bit shit really.
I was the same as you in my younger years and I really wish I could have just relaxed and had more fun instead of "when I've lost weight", "when I've had my eyebrows done" or whatever flaw I was allowing to rule my life.

Find a fab dress and have a great night - and cut yourself some slack. Saw a post the other day that said "women are expected to look like 10's whilst most men are warm coleslaw". Fuck it op, be the coleslaw Grin

Just go in what you feel comfy in! People will just be pleased to see you and hear about the baby 🤱

The Phase Eight Becca Star dress is quite flattering especially with Maidenform sculpting underwear, thick tights, ankle boots, shiny earrings and a chunky necklace. Have a nap in the afternoon, polish and iron your hair and put some make up on.

Eat well (lots of fruit and water) for the 48 hours before the party so your skin looks it's best. Watch Holly McNish 'My body is amazing' and feel super proud of your amazing body! Arrive with someone else and then leave early before everyone gets too drunk.

Don't be so hard on yourself!! You've just had a baby!! Only 7 weeks ago!! Go and enjoy yourself!! Xx

secretuser · 11/12/2018 12:34

I went to a wedding 7 weeks after DS was born. After trying to shop in normal places and finding it utterly horrendous, I ordered a heap of maternity dresses from Seraphine and wore one of those. It was nothing amazing, a navy crossover jersey dress, but it was comfy, hid all of the bits I hated and because it was maternity it was long enough, didn't cling etc. Yes it was boring, but frankly I was quite happy to blend in, I just wanted to enjoy the day and not draw too much attention to myself.

Maybe try some maternity dresses, if you have a good hunt online you should fine some quite nice ones that are suitable for post partum.

grumpy4squash · 11/12/2018 12:38

I'm going to mine in jeans, heels and a top with sequins.

Similar issues with belly and body in general, but kids much older :(

Trinity66 · 11/12/2018 12:45

Also, most of the men will probably be wearing comfy jeans and a jumper, be comfortable and stand up for womens rights at the same time Grin

jessstan2 · 11/12/2018 12:45

Bless you, know how you feel but in a few months you'll be amazing, trust me.
In the meantime Flowers Wine.

Orangecake123 · 11/12/2018 12:54

Go easy on yourself OP- 7 weeks is still early.

I like the Christmas jumper idea!

BlancheM · 11/12/2018 13:45

If ever there was a time to go out in a jumper and jeans, it's now. ''Tis the season! You can totally get away with it and no one will think you're trying to cover up they will just think you're being festive.

suddenlypanicked · 11/12/2018 13:50

Shall we help you find something amazing to wear

Yohooo · 11/12/2018 14:56

I doubt anyone would notice and if they did then no one would judge you - you baby is still brand new! It's not like you are still carrying the baby weight after the baby has left home.

Also, if it were me, I wouldn't bother with spanx - being comfortable is the way to go.
Although up to you what makes you feel ok.

I went to a party with a 7 day old baby. I got a million compliments even though I was still quite fat. I think I radiated happiness 😊

HollyJolly74 · 11/12/2018 15:38

Oh my goodness, go!! If you want to, you absolutely should go! Find something festive that you feel comfy in, get your hair done, whack some lippie on & enjoy yourself!! You’ve just had a baby for goodness sake, don’t be so hard on yourself! X

thighofrelief · 11/12/2018 15:47

You know that anyone who judges you for not being a supermodel 7 weeks after having a baby is crazy.

Cinnabun · 11/12/2018 15:49

I am too hard on myself. I just usually feel fabulous and can't imagine anything making me feel that way now. I have no money to buy anything nice so will have to dig something out....

Lucylugs · 11/12/2018 15:58

Congratulations on you little oneSmile
I was in the same situation few years back. I decided on chiffon/velvet black off shoulder top over long black flowy skirt with black low heels. Worked great I think, skirt kept everything in place and top just skimmed over bumps. I felt great because top was fancy and at least my shoulders and neck hadn't changed shape!

GemmeFatale · 11/12/2018 16:05

I’m pregnant but at the flabby/bloated looking stage (which seems to be lasting forever). I did a Christmas do in faux leather leggings and an oversized top. Covered the bad looking bits but still felt like me.

BusterGonad · 11/12/2018 16:07

Please don't not go just because you feel bad about your body, I'm sure with the right outfit/make up you will look gorgeous...maybe not quite the same but things take time settle! Please don't be upset about your body, things will change, it's early days.

BusterGonad · 11/12/2018 16:08

And when is the party? eBay have so many bargains at the moment with people trying to make Christmas money!

Cinnabun · 11/12/2018 16:35

Thanks everyone.

It's on Thursday but I do have ASOS premium so can order something before midnight tonight. Push comes to shove!

I am in the same boat although 10 months pp I could have actually written this I am also undecided about going really want to but nothing to wear

Veterinari · 11/12/2018 17:10

If you have jeans that you feel ok in then I guarantee you look better than you feel!
And jeans are great for keeping it all in Grin
Hi for jeans a slouchy/sparkly t shirt or a lightweight knit. Heels or boots. Job done.
You’ll be fabulous
