Urgent advice - no CAMHS crisis team anymore?

JustWading · 10/12/2018 22:18

Posting for traffics - camhs used to have an out of hours crisis team and I can't find the number for them?

I don't think urgent a and e is needed at the moment but I do need some professional advice.

DC is under camhs and a pschyciatrist is having a really bad time right now and I just need to know what to do

Around here, it would be out of hours GP via 111. Hope you get the help you need.

Oneweekleft · 10/12/2018 22:21

Sorry I don't know much about these things but can you call 111 and ask them What to do?

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 10/12/2018 22:23

In my area (Surrey?) There is a thing called CYP haven that can provide an alternative you a&e for a child in crisis. I hope you get through to someone!

EvenFlo2 · 10/12/2018 22:24

Can you call the number for the CAMHS team your DC is under? That should have an answerphone with urgent numbers..

EvaHarknessRose · 10/12/2018 22:28

NHS 111 will have contacts - not necessarily to give you, but to advise you.

OhTheRoses · 10/12/2018 22:39

I think you need to take yr dc to A&E if psychiatrist via camhs is in place already. They'll probably admit after 4/5 hours and CAMHS should come tomorrow and get you into crisis team. Do not leave until you have a commitment.

To zigzag the CYP havens shut at 11 I think. They opened in Surrey as a sop because CAMHS is so inadequate here and provides minimal services. Indeed they ceased referrals for four months over summer because they made such a mess of restructuring and introducing Mindsight.

OhTheRoses · 10/12/2018 22:40

Oh OP, take overnight bags, snacks and flasks.

Good luck.

Puggles123 · 10/12/2018 22:41

Does the hospital the psychiatrist is under have a crisis number/early intervention team?

IncyWincyGrownUp · 10/12/2018 22:43

In our area we are told that A&E is the best option if no crisis availability, as they can snag the in house bods as needed.

Sending positive thoughts, from my CAMHS house to yours.

JustWading · 10/12/2018 22:44

There used to be a number on the ansaphone but it's not there any more and there's nothing on the internet.

I've called 111 and they are getting a doc to call me back.

Is there always a paediatric psych at a and e?

OP posts:
GaryBaldbiscuit · 10/12/2018 22:48

We had to ring samaritans in same scenario, othwerise I hope a and e help you

sarahC40 · 10/12/2018 22:50

No it always a paediatric psych available - 111 thought there is, but it’s for adults at our local a&e. We had an overnight admission to keep safe and an urgent CAMSH visit on the ward next day - could that be a route for you?

sarahC40 · 10/12/2018 22:51

Sorry isn’t always available

JustWading · 10/12/2018 22:51

The psychiatrist they currently see is a camhs pscyh and takes medication - dose was doubled last few months and was horrendous to start with but we were hoping this was a just and adjustment period.

DC wants to come off them, counsellor thinks they should come off them (or at least try another type - tho this is the 2nd type they've tried) but psychiatrist thinks a good idea to continue til jan and then see.

I was worried about DC coming off them and the withdrawal - whilst at school and then possibly ruining Xmas for DC (they are worried about this too as they're pinning their hopes on it being an enjoyable one as last year was awful).
