Help finding a 15 year old stuffed Superdrug toy dog for my dyspraxic son?

Welltroddenpath · 10/12/2018 16:42

Ok I know this is a major long shot so maybe it fits under AIBU? Maybe not the right topic but heyho...

My eldest son was given this Superdrug toy as a birth present in November 2003! Then my now 11 year old took a shine to him and totally adores this dog, as you can see he is well loved and bears little resemblance to his former glory. My son has dyspraxia so sensory issues and sits rubbing this dogs ear constantly

It would be great if anyone has any ideas where to find one. Polish can for size comparison.

Wow Dotty, well done! Hope you get him OP.

KatieKittens · 10/12/2018 17:54

I hope you get the dog op!

On an unrelated matter- is dyspraxia the only diagnosis your son has?

Dyspraxia is an information processing disorder and can affect sensory perception, but generally people with dyspraxia wouldn’t have sensory ’issues’ unless they also have another condition alongside it.

Might be worth looking into futher

Omg! What is the eBay link! I think that’s it!!! I have had a ebay alert for years but never found him!

Katie my son has dyspraxia and a language disorder. I always thought that sensory processing was just part of his dyspraxia. ASD was ruled out years ago by a top nhs consultant working privately in Harley street

Oh, it ended literally after I posted it.
Hope you managed to get it OP and someone didn't swipe it after seeing this thread Hmm

Toomanycats99 · 10/12/2018 18:25

My dd also has dyspraxia - she has mild sensory issues as well and I had seen that in the list of symptoms on the website I had found.

However I do think there may be more and she is being referred for further assessments by the Sen at her school.

Hedgehogblues · 10/12/2018 18:27

Sensory processing issues are very much a part of dyspraxia. OP I am a dyspraxic adult. If you want some advice on kiddo coping with sensory issues hit me up

If you don’t manage to find one try littlebluecup they are specialists in finding item like this!

Welltroddenpath · 10/12/2018 18:27

Thank you @Dottysmum18 that is the excact dog, I just can’t belive this. I have bought it! I have scored eBay for years but it’s the first time I have asked on mumsnet so maybe it was the reason I did today 😁
I think my son will be shocked to see what his dog used to look like!

We once went on holiday to Majorca on almost left the dog on the transfer coach. That was about nine years ago so that’s how long I have been looking for another

@Welltroddenpath Glad to have helped hope he loves it for 13 more years 😊

Welltroddenpath · 10/12/2018 18:39

My son goes to a non maintained specialist school and I had to appeal to get it approved. As part of that I paid for a private OT report and that was very helpful. He has got auditory processing issues and his new school thinks he might have ocd but that doesn’t impact too much on his life at home except with food.
Lots of these conditions overlap like the Olympic Rings from what I understand.
Hedgehogblues are you a sensory seeker or avoider? My son is a avoider but still seeks sometimes out like rubbing his dog.
I think I’m going to keep this find a secret and wrap the dog up as a Christmas surprise

I'm much the same. I try to minimise sensory input generally (and I can't "hear" people if there is background noise or music) I have a set of fragrance free toiletries for days I'm really sensory sensitive. But also I like touching certain fabrics, have heavy blankets on my bed and have fidget toys

Welltroddenpath · 10/12/2018 18:55

It’s really interesting and I can’t imagine what it feels like hedgehog. He can’t use any type of deodorant because he can’t stand the feel of them going on cold. I’m trying to find a brand he can tolerate with puberty in mind. I told him to rub the stick on his hand first so he can pre empt the sensation on a less sensitive place before touching his armpits.
I’m so glad he got diagnosed otherwise I think he would be constantly being told off for doing things that cause him pain.
He’s currently sitting on his bed reading with his foot by his head, balancing his dog on his foot and rubbing his dogs ear.😁
