For the past 5-6 months I've been nervous all day every day.
It's a really intense scared feeling all day long.
I can't get rid of it,if I try to distract myself I still feel terrified.
What is wrong with me?
I'm having lots of other symptoms too.
Feeling really sad and down too.
I can only describe it as if you were about to take a driving test or if you were waiting to hear some dreadful news.

This sounds like an anxiety disorder. I’d see your GP, there are things they can do to help you. Flowers it’s horrible.

Sparklesocks · 10/12/2018 13:14

It sounds like you might have anxiety or similar OP. Have you tried talking to your GP about how you feel?

hattypattyandco · 10/12/2018 13:18

I've tried but he just threw anti depressants at me and beta blockers.

Sounds like generalised anxiety disorder. I would definitely see your GP again. If your going via medication the first try often doesn't work and it may be you need talking therapy or something similar.

hattypattyandco · 10/12/2018 13:21

I've been looking at hypnotherapy
I've read that can be good
I don't want to start the medication without it being my very last option

PurpleDaisies · 10/12/2018 13:21

Did you try taking them? They can really help.

hattypattyandco · 10/12/2018 13:22

I tried the beta blockers and they made me feel ill.

madmum5811 · 10/12/2018 13:22

How old are you Patty?

PurpleDaisies · 10/12/2018 13:23

Have you been back to the gp to tell them that the beta blockers made you feel unwell? You might be able to try a lower dose.

LilMadAgain · 10/12/2018 13:27

Depending on where you live, you can refer yourself for counselling Op. Antidepressants can help but it's just putting a plaster on a dirty wound, you have to identify the problem and know what you're dealing with first Flowers

hattypattyandco · 10/12/2018 13:33

I've just turned 30.
I'm on the lowest doze beta blocker ..I even tried taking half and I felt out of breath and like someone was sat on my chest.
I used to have asthma when I was 15/16 and eventually grew out of it I think but not sure the beta blockers are ideal.

CrabbyPatty · 10/12/2018 13:36

I'm on citalopram for anxiety and depression, not sure about beta blockers, but whilst the original side effects of the citalopram were difficult (I was signed off sick from work for the first few weeks) it was worth it. I think you need to discuss this more with your GP, can you self refer to local mental health services who may be able to offer some therapy. xx

hattypattyandco · 10/12/2018 13:39

What side effects did you get?
The doctor gave me citalopram (or however it's spelt ) but with only two weeks to Christmas I don't want to start them incase I feel ill

If the beta blockers are making you breathless they're probably lowering your blood pressure too much. I'd go back and ask for therapy. Citalopram can take a couple of weeks to start working and can make you feel worse in the meantime but if you're really struggling while they kick in you can ask for low dose diazepam (they are addictive so don't take them unless you really need to).

madmum5811 · 10/12/2018 13:53

Can you ask for an asthma spiro test. This may be connected. Asthma can come back. I would also get hormones, vitamin D test.

If nothing in your life has changed, job, relationships stress wise, I would look for a physical problem.

hattypattyandco · 10/12/2018 14:02

The last year I've gone through a lot.
A lot of upset and worry and I think it's been the catalyst.

OP posts:
hattypattyandco · 10/12/2018 14:02

My stress levels must be sky high I imagine.

OP posts:
madmum5811 · 10/12/2018 14:04

Upset and worry can kick off the asthma again, so although you may not realise it your peak flow has reduced.

Sometimes after a lot of stress my wonderful old GP said, you flatten your batteries so an anti depressant can be of use. Beta blockers did not suit me either my bp was so low to start with.

Cel982 · 10/12/2018 14:07

Antidepressants are an appropriate treatment for anxiety disorders, OP - I'd urge you to give them a try if things are as bad as they sound. If you could access some CBT-type counselling as well, that would really help.

hattypattyandco · 10/12/2018 15:22

I just hope things improve soon
It's so exhausting feeling scared like this all day every day plus through in physical symptoms and things are unbearable

Russiawithlove · 10/12/2018 15:44

Magnesuim is very good for anxiety. You could give it a try. Available from any health food shop.

erykahb · 10/12/2018 16:03

Try taking a look at a nutrition plan.
Not saying youre unhealthy, I have no clue
But clean eating and exercising can do a lot for your mood and anxiety

I hope you feel better
