To be worried?

I know it's not an AIBU, but I'm worried and it's late.

I do suffer with anxiety/PTSD so I could be over-exaggerating this, I need a calm head to tell me to get a grip.

I've had a virus recently (cold symptoms, sore throat, cough..) which I seem to have finally gotten rid of.
Tonight I've been laying in bed and my throat felt swollen(?) almost, like my tonsil on one side was enlarged.
I've looked at the back of my throat and I can't see any obvious swelling; there's no redness or pus.
But, my glands around my jaw are tender to touch and are 'up' - on the side that I feel is swollen.

Could this be me getting an infection? Or is it normal for glands to become enlarged and tender post virus?
Of course I jumped straight to Google and all I keep seeing is serious diagnosis' which isn't helping me at all - even though I have virtually no other symptoms.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Should add that the swollen, tender side is also the same side as a wisdom tooth eruption. It's been coming through for ages and feels slightly sore but again nothing too dramatic.

If you are in the uk you can dial 111 to discuss any symptoms if you are worried they may be bad. It does sound like just a bug/flu though you’ve had

Your tonsils are part of your immune defences so yes, it's normal for them to be swollen at times. Ditto glands.

Lymph nodes (swollen glands) can take 6 to 12 months to go back to normal size after periods of infection. Occasionally people will have some nodes that always appear enlarged even though they're not.

If your concerned it won't hurt to get a HCP to give you the once over. If you've other symptoms make sure you are clear about them (for example night sweats or uncontrollable hiccups might not seem relevant to swollen glands in the throat but form part of the symptom pattern for lymphoma).

Obviously only going on what you're saying but it definitely sounds like an infection from the tooth, I would urge you to get it checked just because you don't want to end up with an abscess or similar.

See, this is why I know I'm being ridiculous.

I have zero other irregular symptoms. No hiccups, no night sweats, no weight loss, no more fatigued than usual.
I've only just noticed the sensation tonight and since Googling it I feel like my throat is closing over and my chest is tightening.

Thinking about the sensation, it is right around the area of the wisdom tooth - so a dentist appointment is a must.

I lost my mum at the beginning of September to a pulmonary embolism and I panic at every twinge now. It's stupid.
I think I'll book in to see my GP for the worsening anxiety if nothing else.

Thank you for your reassurances

Your tonsils will swell for anything. They are similar to a gland. Even too much pollen in the air can cause tonsils to swell.
