I have been in a relationship for 10 months and things are going well. We are spending Christmas together all through to new year. Boyfriend's mum will be joining us (that's me, boyfriend and his 11 yrs old) for a few days. His brother and family will also be coming over for the day at some point over the Christmas period. I have always spent Christmas with my family, this will be the first time ever to spend Christmas with a boyfriend and his family. Please advise what meals (share recipes if possible too), and everything i can do to make the festive season enjoyable for everyone. Boyfriend tells me not to worry but of course pple have to fed and watered. I am from abroad (Africa) and boyfriend is British, any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks to u all.

Hello again.

I think it's your BF who should be doing the heavy lifting here - it's his family and you've not been together too long (are you even living together).

I think you should contribute with some side dishes/traditions of your own - that a lovely fusion of cultures.

But it's your boyfriend who needs to be doing the hard work - which includes all the "wife work' planning, prepping, buying, cooking etc.

One thing that will always ruin Christmas is stress.

First off, stay cool! A warm welcome and a smile go a long way.
If you’ve got to feed lots of people , think about 1 pot meals or pasta is always good.
A really simple meal (and looks quite good too) is ,
A cod fillet each
Paste some pesto over it
Then wrap each piece in Parma ham
Put in a baking tray with some cherry vine tomatoes
About 20mins at 180.
Shove a bit of greenery on the plate, job done!
Or chips of course
Don’t try too hard.
Be yourself!

Thanks lovingBenidorm for that. I will be trying that out. There won't be trying too hard, just want to be able feed anyone who comes over. Boyfriend is very happy to help, but I just want to be helpful too and not just leave him to it cos it's his family. Thanks for yo suggestion.

You need it be less vague. Are 20 turning up expecting Christmas dinner or 4 in the evening for nibbles? What days / how many / what time are they planning on coming?!

You should cook simple meals that require little effort. Best to do things you are used to cooking. chicken and veg tray bakes are easy can be as spicy or not. Look at bbc good food recipes for a few ideas. Stews and casseroles are low maintenance. Cold buffets are good as people can eat as much or as little as they want

GiveThatWhatWhat, thanks for yo relationship advice. However, that's not what I asked for. My boyfriend & I are sorted. All I need is advise for is what I stated. Thanks again.

Babysharkah, only his mum is with us for Christmas, at some point in the course of the festive season, his brother, wife and 2 kids will come over for the day. So not too many people at one time. Thanks

What about a lasagne, you could make now and freeze, or a gammon that you can make a meal with or use for sandwiches etc.

Bug8 · 10/12/2018 16:47

Kazz2200, sure. Thanks for that.
