I feel cruddy, and my glands are up on one side. I really could do with not being ill this week, I have so much to do and two small kids to look after.

What are your go-to illness zapping strategies? I'm prepared to throw everything at this!

Green tea for breakfast.
Small (5ml) dose of night nurse in the evening to keep the snot and coughing at bay overnight. But not enough to make you feel like a zombie the next day.

Chicken broth for lunch and dinner every day. No processed foods. Lots of liquid. Gargle salty warm water for bad throat. Paracetamol for fever. Lots of rest.

My colds get better quickly with above. DH doesn't do any of this so his lingers and also turns into a cough.

Lots and lots of onion & garlic.
Chicken soup.
Hot curry with extra garlic.
Hottest bath you can stand then bed to cocoon and sweat it out.

Allicin max pills and oregano pills

I think I saved myself from a couple of mega lurgies that went through the office with this last year. Didn't save myself from my best mate giving me a lurgy over the summer - annoying - but that was probably a lost cause as he decided to come over here and I couldn't really send him home. I would have done if he lived closer.

Daily vitamin C supplements (plus daily portions of real vitamin C - pomegranate, kiwi, citrus etc are good) to help boost your immune system. Plus lots of water/non-caffeinated drinks. Lots of sleep, and a bit of gentle exercise, ideally outdoors, regularly.

If my glands are swollen I take a pain reliever (ie ibuprofen or paracetamol) and it also sometimes helps to use ear drops such as Otex since lots of the germs can enter through the ear. I also take vitamin C, eat spicy/hot soups and jump in a steamy shower.

Echinacea extract tablets, max dose for at least a week.

Tonnes if vitamin c, zinc and iron plus any other multivitamins you can get your hands on.

How are ear wax softening drops going to help with germs entering through the ear?

Beachbiscuit · 09/12/2018 20:52

www.drdougwillen.com/peroxide-in-ears-cold-and-flu-remedy/

Otex contains hydrogen peroxide.
