...and what advice you would give to someone who's 7 week old was just admitted to hospital after a seizure?

Not sure why I'm on mn but out of my mind with worry and don't know what to do. We feel so helpless.

Don’t mean to be obtuse as I’m sure it’s a stressful time but I don’t really think a bunch of randoms on the Internet can give you advice in regards to your child in this situation. Even if they have also had children who have had seizures who knows if the underlying pathology is the same and you are comparing apples with apples. You will now be in the best place surrounded by the people who are best placed to give you advice. The wheels turn slowly though with tests, obs, decisions etc but there is nothing you can do as such, just be patient. For the love of god don’t Google.

She didn't ask for an internet diagnosis PP, just support.

StarryNightChina · 10/12/2018 09:57

Thanks everyone. It's looking like it was down to his fever which they can't pinpoint why he had. It's come down now with medication but they're keeping him in. Still so worried but glad he's okay. I honestly thought he was going to die.

@HoppingPavlova I just posted because my DH was really freaking me out and I've many a time been calmed by people of mn who are often incredibly kind in times of need. Which was demonstrated last night. I wasn't after a diagnosis, as @Paradyning pointed out.

Thanks everyone. Our poor little boy.

No experience with seizures but my baby (well 17 month now!) has chronic lung disease.

He picked up a virus last week, had his chest sounded at doctors but it was clear so no treatment needed. Three o clock in the morning I woke up when I heard him struggling to breath. It was the scariest night of my life, I had his sleep suit and vest off ready to perform CPR.

Thankfully an ambulance was with us in under five minutes and they got him stable with oxygen but I'm still shook up and keep crying randomly.

He is fine and it's like he was never ill Hmm

Pleased your little boy is on the mend, seizures must be terrifying Thanks

My DD was in hospital for 2 weeks when she was 3 months old. She was taken in with suspected meningitis. It turned out she had a UTI, reflux and feeding issues. A course of iv antibiotics and treatment for her reflux and she was all better. She is 7 now!

Quartz2208 · 10/12/2018 17:36

The two times DS has had febrile seizures (at 5 and 6) they never managed to pin point the source of the fever either time - and they were some of the illest he has been

Just wanted to send my love Flowers

Yes - my DD fell very poorly at about the same age and nearly died. It turned out she had a very rare genetic condition that had gone undetected.
Most importantly be kind to yourself, OP. Get enough sleep, eat, cry when you need to. This is not your fault and you aren't a bad mum xx

EarlyModernParent · 10/12/2018 17:50

Had this with DS when he was 4 months old. It is terrifying. Just zone everything out except looking after him and yourself.
And if they have to do a lumbar puncture, I advise not being in the room. You can’t help and it will destroy you. Better not to see it and come in calmly afterwards to give comfort. That is what DH and I were advised and it was definitely the best approach.
Plus, call in favours with friends and family to bring you stuff, don’t do any running around yourself if you can help it.
Have courage, as my mother likes to say.

I had a seriously ill Ds ( although he was 3)

My advice. You have him in the best place , listen to medical staff but also trust you insticts.

Don’t think any further than you need to . Get clothes, , nappies and whatever you need.

Feed yourself. ESP important if you are breast feeding.

When my Ds was 10 also had an emergency admission . I posted on fb . Despite what everyone thinks on here I found it helpful updating lots of people quickly.

Hopefully on the mend soon . Temp stays down and you are home tomorrow.

I agree with the posters be kind to yourself . Children get sick whether we are in the room or not
