To worry about my baby not weeing all day?

UpsyDaaaisy · 09/12/2018 17:05

I know this isn't really the right place to post this but I am a little worried! My 9 month old baby has had a completely dry nappy every time I've changed him today. Literally bone dry nappy completely white etc, he'll usually have a really full nappy after about 2 or 3 hours, he was in the same nappy for over 3 hours today and still completely dry Sad. Basically I'm asking would I be unreasonable or overreacting to ask the doctors about this? Or ask anyone's advice about this? He usually wees for Britain. Thank you!

To cut a long story short, he hasn't weed all day

Has he been drinking as normal?

FishFingersAndCustard11 · 09/12/2018 17:07

Sounds like dehydration. Make sure he has plenty of water throughout the day

WooYa · 09/12/2018 17:07

I'd definitely called 111 for advice. That's a long time for someone so small to have not had a wee.

Almostfifty · 09/12/2018 17:07

That's not right, I'd phone 111 (and I usually roll my eyes up at such advice).

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 09/12/2018 17:07

Phone 111 for advice, hope all is OK.

ThisIsWhatItSoundsLike · 09/12/2018 17:07

Usually a sign of dehydration, how has he been?
Eating and drinking ok? Any illnesses?
If it's definitely dry all day I would make an out of hours gp appointment

StripyDeckchair · 09/12/2018 17:13

A&E. NHS advises A&E for adults who haven't peed for 8 hours and to be much, much more cautious with children under 5. If you ring 111 I think they will send an ambulance.

Wolfiefan · 09/12/2018 17:14

Stupid question alert! Any swelling anywhere? Definitely been drinking?

fuzzywuzzy · 09/12/2018 17:15

Is the indicator on the front of the nappy not changed colour at all all day?

I’d take him to a&e I wouldn’t take chances with a baby.

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 09/12/2018 17:15

Maybe put them in a bath. This can stimulate them to go to the loo

StripyDeckchair · 09/12/2018 17:17

Severe dehydration is a medical emergency op. I would call 999.

astoundedgoat · 09/12/2018 17:18

Stupid question but has he been drinking?

I second the advice above.

Ceecee18 · 09/12/2018 17:32

That's over 8 hours not weeing. I was advised with 16 month old DD if it got to 12 hours to go straight to a&e as it's dehydration and also a sepsis risk.

To be honest at this point I would be going to a&e as by the time you get there and get seen it could well be 12 hours by then.

CloserIAm2Fine · 09/12/2018 17:33

Please seek medical help. Hopefully it’s nothing serious but if he’s dehydrated it can be dangerous especially for babies

Biancadelriosback · 09/12/2018 17:37

We were advised anything longer than 12 hours and get to A&E. DS was really ill at the time and being sick regularly too.
Is your LO fine in all other ways?

Alwaysdrama · 09/12/2018 17:40

OP call for proper medical advice not a forum.

Someone needs to assess for a cause which will depend on what he has drank, any signs of water retention, general behaviour, any vomiting or diarrhoea, past and family history etc

It’s not normal in and off itself for your baby so that’s enough reason to get proper medical advice by the usual means.

Makatoned · 09/12/2018 17:46

Call 111. It’s usually one of their red flags ‘wet nappies as usual?’

Iknowthatguy · 09/12/2018 17:50

I'd be worried about this. When my ds was a similar age he had a stomach bug and the gp wanted to know if he'd had at least 3 wet nappies in 24 hours so presumably less than that could indicate dehydration.

Wolfiefan · 09/12/2018 18:05

Hope you’re seeking medical advice. Hope all is well.

NoTeaNoShadeNoPinkLemonade · 09/12/2018 18:08

To A+E now. Its a red flag alone. He will need fluids. x

UpsyDaaaisy · 09/12/2018 20:14

Sorry for the late update thank you all so much for your advice, waiting on a doctor to call me back while waiting for a taxi to a & e. I feel a bit guilty now for not doing anything sooner, hes drank 2 bottles of milk and has been eating alot of food. He did a really big poo in the morning but other than that he's been okay, a bit quieter than usual but no other symptoms. I will update as soon as I know something

Wolfiefan · 09/12/2018 20:15

Good luck. Don’t panic.
No swelling at all anywhere?

SnuggyBuggy · 09/12/2018 20:19

Don't panic. I know a few people who had babies who had this as the first sign of illness and they all recovered pretty quickly. Thinking of you tonight and hope your DS feels better soon.

ribblerobble · 09/12/2018 20:35

Hope all is OK, OP.
I had to take DD to children's ward on GP's referral after similar - where they asked for a urine sample, agh. Ultimately they just sent us home (she was fine).
