Aibu to want you to share your favourite Christmas decoration? I don't care if it's made by your kids, you bought it on holiday for a joke or if you had it given to you but it has to be the one or 2 things that make you feel 'yep it's Christmas now' when you see it. I've had a really really shite few months and work is so hard but I've put the tree up today and laughed so much because I've seen my 3 favourite things of Christmas. One is a tiny Emma bridgewater decoration that is just beautiful, one is a very ugly camper van that my mum got me and makes me laugh because it was a competition to find the weirdest bauble and I like it so much it goes on my tree every year and one is just hilarious.
My husband bought decorations for the first time last year and he bought them because they made him happy but they're American football baubles 🤦‍♀️

Ps- he puts the tinsel on tree which frankly is a travesty but every time I move it it goes back on so there we are :)

Mr Hanky has been our tree topper for 10 years now!

Somewhereovertherainbow13 · 09/12/2018 16:55

Mine feels boring now compared to Mr Hanky but we have a traditional red and gold Father Christmas that’s about 1 metre tall, putting him in the hallway this year made me think “yep it’s Christmas”. We decorated our hallway this year and moved furniture around and as were left with an empty space which instantly I knew I wanted this Father Christmas for there. Going to miss him when he goes away!

NewYoiker · 09/12/2018 16:57

@Somewhereovertherainbow13 do you have a photo? Sounds lovely!

I'm looking at my tree now trying to decide. I love them all! They all go together and most of them have a special memory attached.

Though if I had to pick just one, well two, it would probably be these little felt mice. They're very cute.

(That's the photo from the shop website. I don't have them on a display, just dangling on the tree.)

I've got some beautiful pheasant/duck/partridge feather baubles I love. This year I bought each of my girls a bauble, they are white with their names painted on in red. They're really plain but IMO very classy and timeless and I love them!just don't tell husband they were £15 each 😨

What a lovely thread.
I love the wreath for the front door. It’s a simple design, a twig wreath with tonnes of (fake) red berries but looks so cheerful. I bought it the first year I was single after I left my abusive ex. I never dared buy one before as he would have sneered at me (plus we never had any spare money as he spent it all on nights out).
Sorry, that turned gloomy, but it reminds me of a positive turning point in my life

Mine is a very old glass one that was my mum's mum's. DH's is a sparkly kiwi bird called the Christmas kiwi which always has pride of place on the tree Grin

jenthelibrarian · 09/12/2018 17:34

I have a really dull little green glass bauble thing that is very, very old. I once thought it was lost, then found it in a corner where the cat had obviously been playing with it until it stuck there, miraculously it was unbroken. I cried, I was so pleased to find it.

I also have a red glass one that is an elongated shape, pointed at each end and always known as the Skylon, after the similarly shaped thing that was lit up at the Festival of Britain.

Both were inherited from my mum and are very precious .

Chapterandverse · 09/12/2018 17:42

These are my three favourites.

A robin red breast, I love them because of the meaning of robins.

A gorgeous fox - reminds me of my sister and I chasing a mangy old fox across London. She died last year and this makes me smile when I see it.

The third is a mouse - again it holds meaning for me as I was always always very small at school and played the mouse in our 'traditional' Christmas play every year Grin

Tree isn’t out yet, but I have it as a memory tree so have baubles that belonged to friends and relatives who are no longer with us as well as one from every year since dd was born. Every year I smile like made when putting it up

MaidenMotherCrone · 09/12/2018 18:36

My favourites are ones my children made years ago when they were little. One is a cross stitch box the other is a small stocking made from red card with a letter to Father Christmas inside asking for a spade....Smile

Curious2468 · 09/12/2018 18:42

I have a set of festive giant microbes which are my favourite. The decoration with the most sentimental value is a tatty old fairy held together with tape that was my mums while I was growing up and I wouldn’t let her get rid of. When she passed away i inherited it and it now sits on the mantle piece until xmas day and then she gets moved to pride of place on top of the tree so my mum is with us on Christmas Day.
